I'm working on doing my 16k valve clearance inspection. I haven't pulled the cams out, but I've check all of the non-vtec valves so far and none are out of spec. I'm wondering if anyone has seen a trend where if the non-vtec valves are in spec, the vtec valves almost always are as well. If this is true, I'd be comfortable with not going through the exercise of pull cams, install cams, check clearance, pull cams, install cams. What have others seen?

From what others have said here, the valves are almost never out of spec after 16K miles. I know some people have gone into the 30K mile range and have still done nothing or have done the adjustment only to find that they were still in spec. I'm only at 9K miles on my bike, so I can't really comment. Hopefully others will chime in who have done the adjustment and whether they were in or out of spec.

Almost all late model bucket and shim engines are spot on for an extended period of time , but it is best to check to be sure . Peace of mind thing, no need to lose sleep over the simple stuff.
