Hey all, I was just wondering. How many of you have actually had to replace/add shims during the recommended valve adjustment intervals? I've done a lot of research and most don't have to do any adjustments, it seems as though the valves stay in specs for an exceptionally long time. I've got an 06 but with only 4300 mi. on it so I'm still a ways from the required interval adjustment. I don't "dog" my bike and I keep the oil changed at 3000 mile intervals, so I'm thinking maybe I could go all the way to 32k before a valve adjustment/inspection. Just pondering the idea.
Every one have their own opinion, My last by bike I have 52k miles during my 50k service the valve were fine. I talk to one of the guy at work his bike have a same hydraulic lift valves and he have 150k never have to shim or adjust the valve.
I've just purchased a 95 Gen 4 VFR. It only has 16k miles on the OD. I checked the manual, and it said to check the valve clearance at 16k, so I decided to do it. The bike for 12 years looked as if was in storage for about 4 years. Which made me want to go through the whole bike. So as I was doing the valves, it seems that 4 valve were at specs, 1 loose(but still in specs .03mm), 8 pretty tight (but still in specs .03mm tight), and 3 (over .05 mm too tight). So all adjusted an runs great. Although I think that the bike may have still ran for 100k even it I didn't check them. (just my impresssion on how built proof these motors are)
