How crucial is to check you valves at recommended 16K. Are the rarely out of adjustment? I am having to wait till 20K on mine. Any thoughts?

Most of the folks that have reported on this have said no adjustment necessary at this inspection.

That should not be a problem...
My dealer told me that it was o.k. to skip the 16k valve adjustment as long as the bike seems to be running fine.
He said he has done several VFR valve checks and never had to do an adjustment yet.
I guess it just depends how meticulous you want to be, but you would probably be fine to go 20k.

You don't need it if the bike is working well but i would still get it in as soon as possible as it is prevenative maint. so you don't need to do a more expensive repair later.

that said the consencus is that the vfr almost never need adjustment because there awsome.

I checked my 4th gen at 22k and everything was in spec. (.007" intake, .011" exhaust.) I have the 5th gen now and I am going to wait to 22k to think about when I am gonna take it apart. But definately before 25k.

I did a valve inspection at 17K and they all were up to spec. From looking on this forum plus other sources I've seen that they can go up to 50K before even needing an adjustment. However, I'm still doing it every 16K because it provides a peace of mind knowing that it's going to start and run when I expect it to.

My thoughts on the subject matter are the same... No need to worry about valves until later. Time for a 5500 mile road trip ))
