Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remove a gas tank cap when I cant get the lid open. The lid used to open with a screw driver instead of a key but I'm pretty sure that I broke it when I was playing around with it. Should I drill this center part out, after draining everything first, or is there a better way? Any suggestions would help, I want to start riding again.

Buy yourself a replacement cap & drill out the lock mechanism w/ a bit that is roughly the same size as the lock cylinder(do not drill all the way through the cap or you will get shavings in the tank). If the lock fingers do not fall out of the way on there own you should be able to pry them open or turn the mechanism manually. You may want to wait a bit to see if someone else has a less detructive method, I haven't had to do it on a fuel cap per say. But drilled out tool box locks & semi tractor door locks before. If you want to spend a little money I'm sure a lock smith could get it open & maybe even be able to repair the lock assm.

    Seven allen bolts.

Around the circuference of the cap are 7 allen bolts. Undo them.
Take the cap to a Honda dealer and get them to fit a new lock. Bolt it back in.
Unlock it. fill with petrol ride bike.

The only problem is that I cant get the fuel door to unlatch and I cant get the whole assembly off of the tank.

I was looking at mine the yesterday (not that I am having difficulties with it) and three of the seven bolts appear to hold it on. sc33 is correct in that even if he took the bolts out, the locing mechanism actually latches under the rim of the tank opening (at least mine does). I would try a locksmith first and then go from there. good luck.
