Updated the ST1100

    Putting this here cuz it has carbs and the era lines up.

    New front tire (Avon Spirit ST), RT 1.0 Springs, new fork seals and bushings, updated the damper rod side to cartridge (thanks Terry Smith !!!), tapered steering bearings.

    I pulled the carbs again and made a couple adjustments to the mains, needles and pilot screws.

    Installed some farkles too.

    Oxford heated grips, LED driving lights on Honda ST1100P mounts (both on independent relay driven wire harnesses), fan override switch. USB charger, charging system monitor, fuel cut relay override switch. Helibars installed for adjustment, so they are not as "tiller" as before. Pretty much the same height (maybe slightly lower), just more sport oriented. I painted the upper triple and bar clamps black for a more finished look.

    Just got back from test ride. WOW.

    I was already good on this bike from pushing Pig VF1000Rs... Look out.

    I "am", but I prefer here so much more.

    My body just doesn't fit the ST1300 for some reason. Plus the ST1100 "fits" my analog lifestyle so much more. I DID NOT WANT: ABS, LBS, TCS. Jesus Christ... it's heavy enough already. My buddy has a 97 ABS.... fucking PACKED with bullshit.

    I fucking love this bike.

    looks good, I remember when they were new. I remember a doode that was going nutz getting the jetting correct, always have to replace all the hose for braided steel lines. Looks like the Millennium Falcon. Cool.

    Good on ya Mike, that looks very shiny!

    Having owned both the 11 and the 13, they are quite different beasties, the 13 is the sporty one with plenty of power and a tight chassis. The 11 is kinder and gentler, not as fast but more relaxing to ride, and no slouch in its own right. I did get tired of the heat coming off the 13, something the 11 never suffered from. If I was to get another I'd probably pick an 11.

    How long will those driving lights survive? A decent lean + dip in a corner will tear that off.

    Awesome bike, I like your updates to it. I test rode a friend's way back and ended up with a ST13. As Terry says, two different bikes. I was actually disappointed at first, wanted the torque curve of the 11 over the 13. Both have a loyal following..... I'm on ST-O as well, first forum I joined.

    The lower lights were a concern from the start. They werent even in the plan, but the first owner had drilled the crash bar and modified the covers with slots for hiway pegs or some shit. They were already removed when I got the bike.

    So I thought what the hell, the wire harness I installed had four connections. Me and a buddy did some angle and distance measurements and they are actually better than the footpegs.

    I'm gonna look into modding the brackets a bit to tuck them in a little better before my confidence in the front end continues to improve and the new tire gets scrubbed.

    And if they get "clearanced".... oh well.

    I hit the switch behind a buddy last night when it was getting dark. At the next stop... "HOLY SHIT!"

    Decided to do a preemptive move on the rear shock.

    I should be able to sell the real nice 29K mile stock shock to help pay for this a little. I didn't want to be on a ride "when" the stock shock decides it's done dampening the spring.

    Plus the stock shock spring is blue and kinda clashes with the bike, even though you can't see much of it.

    Very nice ST1100! I traded a year old TL1000S for a 1994 model, in 1998. I kept my ST1100 until 2012, when I sold it and bought a 2006 GL1800. In hindsight, I could've kept the ST1100. That was the most reliable and well built motorcycle I've ever owned! Probably the "high water mark" for production motorcycles. Cheers!

    Installed the YSS (all of 10 minutes) yesterday before a ride in the valley. Whoa, what a difference. Quite a bit stiffer and much more composed. Buddy commented on the bike following me before I even told him I installed it.

    I pretty much installed as delivered, pre-load and ride height. The shock was set about 5mm longer than stock. I'll give it some more miles to break in and then I'll see how it measures. Likely leave it a touch on the stiff side for passenger duty, without having to fuck with it. I like it stiffer anyway when I'm solo, I ride it fairly aggressively.

    Very happy again with YSS products.

    Thanks for the feedback on the YSS Mike. My newly acquired ST1300 has 110,000km on the stock rear shock but suprisingly it still feels pretty good, the rebound adjuster is at 0.75 turns out and is doing a decent job of control although the back tyre (PR4) has got the curled up groove edges that suggest the rebound is a bit light. YSS looks to be the cheapest option for a replacement when I need it. Can I ask where you bought yours and whether you had any say in the spring rate?

    When I had my 1100, I fitted a Progressive 465 shock, and that also transformed the marshmallowey stock bike to a perfectly decent cornering machine.

    I usually find and confirm the model number I want (sometimes it's not the one a fitment guide says), and then search for best price on eBay. I usually can find a vendor that is substantially cheaper on price and shipping than most by looking for the part number, not searching by the bike model.

    I have bought a few from biketyresuk on eBay, I believe it is an official YSS store. They typically have the best descriptions regarding dimensions for further confirmation, and they will swap in a different spring for an up charge. I don't think it is a ridiculous fee for that.

    Just home from 1700 mile trip with the wife for our Anniversary. Washington, Oregon And Idaho. Killer roads. Mon thru Thurs averaged about 400 miles per day Friday was an easy last day to her parents (where we got married), just 69 miles.

    First night in Oregon we saw The Psychedelic Furs at the Mcmennemins Grand Lodge. X opened for them, it was a great show.

    The ST was flawless, I just love that bike.

    The band "X" from LA? Exene is the lead singer? Used to listen to them in 84 and currently have maybe 4 albums from them, one is "Under the Black Sun?" me thinks, very cool
