UPDATE: Enjoying the hell outta my new VFR. My '83 Interceptor feels like a tractor in comparison! LOL

I remember mentioning in a previous post that after I picked up my bike from the dealer, I changed the oil cause I didn't trust the dealer when he said he changed it for me. Well, when I changed the filter, I noticed 3.5 years of 'showroom dust' on it. NO, he didn’t change the oil. I wish I had looked at that when I bought the bike. But I was too excited to think right! NOT GOING BACK THERE FOR ANYTHING!!!!!

I want to change the coolant. BUT the owner’s manual says take it in to a dealer. WTF?? Anyone with a lobotomy can do this... I can do this! PROBLEM: I don’t have a service manual (YET).

Soooo, someone out there has to have done this on their '07 VFR right? This should be easy to do as it is w my '83.

Any instructions out there?? Any precautions?? T-H-A-N-K-S !!!!!

Was going to buy a service manual but held off. I changed the 4 year old coolant. I suspect it was in there since '07 when the bike showed up at the dealer. They didnt change the oil and I assume not the coolant as well. Been getting temps of 195 up to 212 on a 68 degree day. Thats why I changed it out. Thought old coolant just wasnt doing the job. So I changed it myself even though the owners manual said to have the dealer do it (ya... I'm gonna let that happen??)

    Walk in the park!

Granted, this mornings ride was abit cool, but the temp stayed at 170. We'll see on the way home this afternoon.

Hey Alex , there are a few threads from me asking about flushing the coolant . What I did was I went to the local dealer (there pretty cool) and asked the service manager to pull down his shop manual and show me were BOTH the drain plugs were located . One between the cylinders (that takes two new washers ) and one just below the pump (takes one washer) . You can go to Bike Bandit and bring up the water pump picture and see exactly were they are . Very Easy to do . Honda wanted $90 with body work on and $38 with it off . Hope this helps

Huge PIA on that bike, but always a good idea to re-check coolant under rad cap after the first or second ride. Usually some air pockets will work their way out, and the system will need to be topped up again.

Now that you have the '07, do you think you'd ever want to ride that crude '83 tractor again ??????

With it being 70 ish today depending on the route you take home and the traffic - you'll see it break 200 easy and possibly get up near 220 - don't worry it'll come down :)

Ya, read all the posts I could over the last few days. Lots of good info, sorry for the redundancy guys!

duccmann: Good advice bro! Didnt know about the drain plugs! I need to get a service manual. Will check out Bike Bandit asap.

squirrelman: I havent been on the '83 since I bought my '07. Neighbors got a field to plow, so I might help him out w that! LOL Seriously tho, I still love my '83. Something about it I can't explain.

tmyoungjr Read some posts where temps go up to a range from 230-265. I hit 223 the other day in slow traffic. Starting to think all this is just normal. Might have paniced too soon. Will see when summer hits!

I routinely hit 215-220 in slow traffic. The fan kicks in and it holds pretty steady near 225 on the hot days. I would not worry at all :)
