Hey guys, recently aquired an 02 VFR and was doing some of the recommended mods. Changed plugs and synched starter valves.

on reassembly i noticed a loose hose under the tank ( near the coils) IMG_1623.jpeg . The non loose end runs along the left side of the bike and down under the air box somewhere. When I start the bike i get 9 blinks from the FI light( without jumper)

im not sure if thats a code from running without the map sensor when i did the synch or tied to this mystery hose or something new i introduced.

heres a photo of the hose:

    thanks in advance!

Code 9 is your Intake Air Temp sensor. Make sure you have reconnected it post Starter Valve Synch.
Hose might be tank breather or overflow?

guess i gotta pop the tank off an check. I thought it mightve been overflow. But would an overflow have a plastic tip like that. Seems superfluous if it doesnt go anywhere

The 5th gen has a joiner on the breather hose that looks a bit like that. All fuel tanks have a larger overflow (approx 12mm) from around the filler cap, and a smaller diameter (approx 8mm) breather that connects to a pipe inside the tank. The breather is needed as the fuel cap is airtight, so you need a way for vapours to escape and for air to enter as fuel is sucked out. The other hoses will be the high pressure fuel line, and the low pressure return from the pressure regulator, both pass through the pump flange,

So based on what your saying its likely the mystery hose goes on the hose second from left. I doubt a fuel overflow is supposed to dump onto your coils.[IMG]
