Wow, I haven't followed bicycle racing in some time. I think the last time I caught the TDF was when Greg LeMond was racing! So did Froome run across the finish line? Don't you have to run your vehicle across the line for it to be official?

No, he only ran a short distance. A neutral service car gave him another bike after Richie Port hit a motorcycle in front of him, then another motorbike hit Froome's bike and broke the frame. Then his teammate Geraint Thomas gave him his bike which he used to finish the race. The night before the race commission had shorten the finish of the stage by 6km due 70 mph winds at the top of the mountain. Thousand of spectators moved downed the mountain and reduced the width of the course and the motorcycle had to stop to avoid hit them.

I watched all 21 stages for about the last couple hours every morning, starting at 5am in CA. The French TV coverage was fantastic. The motorcyclists who carried cameramen, were incredible, sometimes reaching 70-80 mph on the decents in the rain. Lots of motorcycles used in the race, riding right along side the 175 riders.
