So as some of you may know already, I recently purchased a 2006 VFR800 (white) with no known mods. Bike has almost 10,000 on the clock. Well recently a good friend of mine purchased an 08 vfr800, also with no known mods. Well I test rode her bike when we went to pick it up and the throttle on the 08 seems to be much smoother than the one on my bike. Mine seems twitchy and seems to be getting bound up but I don't see anything it could be rubbing on or binding against. It's a mild annoyance right now but it's something I would like to fix. Any thoughts? Do these things run throttle cables? Or is it electronic? There seems to be a throttle cable but I can't be sure. Not too keen on bikes just yet...

One other thing I should note as well, the bike came with a previously installed "cruise control" mechanism, a throttle lock type. It doesn't work worth a crap, but could that be causing it to bind up?

Sounds like there is some interference leftover from the Cruise Control, might have to dissemble and check.

True, throttle locks often interfere with cable return action.:lemo:

If the throttle won't snap back briskly and firmly, check cable routing from FSM, and consider adjusting in a bit more cable freeplay.

The device unlatches and doesn't seem to still be holding the throttle though. I'm probably gonna take it off and trash that thing anyway. I don't care for how it works.

The throttle should snap back to idle without issue. The 6th gens use two cables. A draw and a return cable. Make sure that both are free in the cable guides. You may need to add some silicone spray to the cable guides to ensure free running.

Throttle locks can cause binding even if disengaged. Take it off and test. If the problem goes away then you have your issue.

Keep in mind that the 08 ecu has different firmware in it. So it has a smoother throttle than the 06 or 07 (mine is very sensitive).
Part of the problem for over sensitive throttle is in the synchronizing of the throttle assembly. A simple linkage that binds can throw the whole thing out of wack and never show you where it really is.

Check it out and let us know what you find. This way others can glean from your issue.

So your 07 is sensitive? Is there a way to smooth the throttle out by remapping fuel or something? I'm gonna look at everything on the bike to begin with but the throttle snaps back in place pretty easily so I think maybe it's the tuning setup. Her bike is very smooth compared to mine, which isn't a bad thing, it's just annoying sometimes.
