I'm trying to put the carbs back in the bike. I got the rear ones all the way in but when I try to put the front ones in they will not stay down in the boot. The rear ones are not tightened down. The part of the boots that hooks to the intake manifold are tightened all the way down for all 4. Should i hold the front ones in and tighten the boot or should I do something else? TIA for any advice.

ah, the ole square peg into a round hole, or in our case- the opposition of angles.

its a finesse thing, and fortunately gets easier after you do it once (or many times!)
there is a fine balance of force vs risk. best to err on the side of caution here.

the "rocking motion" seems to help me as opposed to trying to go "all in" on one side.

it took me about 2 days to get carbs off the 1st time. about 2 hours to get to them,
and many hours/beers/cursing to get the nerve to apply the req'd force to break the seal.

the last time, i went from running bike to carbs sitting on on bench in under 30 minutes.

take your time, hold your mouth just right, apply any force with mucho care,
chant the magic words to the V-4 gods, and they slide right in.
