Which Motorcycle Company had the only motorcycle sold in the USA that did NOT have shifting forks to change gears?

For extra points... What DID it use to shift gears?

oh stand corrected - he didn't specify japanese. I got the last question confused with this one.

Although, the Ridley doesn't technically have "gears"

Technically it does have gears but they don't shift as the clutches do all the work. I'm interested to see what the real answer is!

    ANSWER:

The motorcycle was a HODAKA. IT was designed by Pabtaco Hodaka.
He died on a HODAKA in a intersection in Japan on a HODAKA.

The HODAKA had gears and A rod went through the trans that would allow steel balls to fall into spaces between the gears that would lock them into place. If I remember correctly there were 20 steel balls about 1/4 inch diameter,
It was very simple and the transmission shifted smooth as glass and you could just about not even have to use the clutch.

I will try a VFR/VF question next time.
