I will pull a single strand of wire oot of a chunk of wiring and work it until it pokes through. Lol, I may have some "spare" stock jets I can give you.

Best wire size is .010"-.012" Unless the hole is partially open, you'll need to use steel wire for its rigidity.

A wire from a supermarket twist-tie works OK, and boiling the jets in water and vinegar loosens up the filth before you start probing.

WHAT, you're in Sac ????? Here's wacha do: buy beer and grab those jets, then contact TC and find out when he'd like to help you drink the brews and clean the jets is wacha do.

What Squirrelman said. I just went through this a few weeks ago. The smallest guitar string my son's friend had was .015 - no go at all. I unwrapped a piece of copper electrical wire for one of the strands and it worked great (miked .011). I put a little B-12 in the jet with an eyedropper, worked the wire for about 5 minutes and voila, it went through.

Use a .009 high E electric guitar string . I guarentee it will go through.
#40 jet means .40 millimeters or .015 thousandths of an inch.
So you must have used a G string. (.017) on a set of 10's electric guitar.

If the soft copper wire breaks inside the brass jet you will be SOL.
Use a #10 high E electric guitar string.

the .010 worked. I was using an acoustic B string....016?

Thanks for the offer Toe. I think he put a jet kit on it. Its got stock mains, but 40 slow jets and the float valve and seats have been changed out. He ran a kerker 4 to 1. Maybe its a kit. Im curious how this thing is going to run after 17 years.

My neighbors are in for a treat with this Kerker.

It also helps the wire get through if you hold the wire and twist the jet around so it acts more like a drill as well as a probe. By scraping the wire sideways against a sharp knife blade, the diameter can be reduced in a semi-controlled manner.

As an admitted Chapter 1 Cheapskate, i always try to clear the jets i have to work with rather than get new........have to admit, though, i once (maybe twice, i plead the 5th !) broke a wire stuck inside and needed to spend $5.

Noobs need to know there are TWO longitudinal holes that need to be probed (and it should be consentual) in the idle jet, but if things are so filffy that you can't get a wire into the FIRST hole, then the second, smaller hole might not be clearable except by extreme measures or not at all. Just seeing some light through the jet holes does not indicate that it's 100% clear but it's a good start.

Obtaining 4 NEW jets so you know it's right shouldn't cost as much as the aggravation of needing to yank the carbs again or poor running.
