    OK, I'm thinking about getting a "new" trackbike; likely a 2007 or so. I'm struggling between sticking with the old standby GSXR600, with the wealth of parts available, or trying something new, a Triumph Daytona 675... In my opinion, all the middleweights are competitive, with some cajoling, and I feel the decision really comes down to:

    Easy to find (local) parts and cheap at that (comparatively) vs. wanting to try something different and have a bike that's not the same as everyone else's.

    Thoughts?

    675 all the way!!!
    they are the lightest out of all the 600's right now.
    plus that triple torque and sound.
    besides, gixxers are for assholes... lol

    You kind of answered your question.

    Parts for the Gixxer are everywhere, both new and used.

    Maybe broaden your horizons too. A SV650 or an R6 would also be a really good choice and again parts are everywhere.

    A friend of mine has a 675 and tracks it. I've ridden it and it is a really nice bike for sure. But it will be more expensive for parts as you have fewer choices.

    the reason I say GSXR is due to tons of part availability in the aftermarket, and more importantly in the pit next to you. The racer and track day code is: if you can help a brother out, please do so. there are TONS of GSXRs in the pits and it is not uncommon to borrow a part - brake pads, levers etc... bear in mind this is a two way street. I do see 675s at the track, but not nearly as many

    GSXR for the track or the Triumph for the street... If it's one for both, then maybe the trumpet, but if it's just the track, go with the GSXR... It's what I have, it's what they have, it's what we all have...

    I would say 675 if you're a fairly responsible rider/mechanic. The Gixxxeeeerrrr would be great if you just want to ride the piss out of something. A 750 may be the perfect compromise. Be mindful that the VFR will need some upgrades as well with your new inverted adjustable suspension.

    Echo- we gotta get together and ride sometime. I just joined TDC but my alllegiance is with NESBA and they seem to be predominantly TPM. I still don't quite understand "what" TDC is so perhaps you can give me the scoop.

    I'm not clear on this remark; do you mean after riding either of these track bikes I'm gonna wanna start making upgrades to my VFR? ;-)

    I will try to make this weekends Mt. ride on Sat., if I'm feeling better. As I mentioned on here somewhere before, I'm basically a weekend only rider... My handle shoulda been "Weekend Warrior".

    Track Day Custom is basically a trackday/social club for folks in the F'burg area, because the guy who runs the actual shop TDC makes all his dough wrenching on local rider's track bikes. They are affiliated with Team Pro Motion, so if you're already hooked up with NESBA, probably not worth your effort.

    At this point I haven't joined any of the actual trackday sponsors, just linked up with TDC since they are local to me and seemed to have good local participation. I'm open to any options.


    The idea of the 600/675 is that if I do decide to actually get back into full-on WERA racing again, I am now qualified for the senior class, since I'm 42...

    MEDIUMWEIGHT SENIOR SUPERBIKE EXPERT & NOVICE
    Up to C Superbike machinery.
    All riders must be 40 years old or greater

    Yep, you got it. My VFR has pretty much been parked since the weather turned. It takes too long to get used to the pogo stick feel after being off her for a while. Great bike, but the front end may get replaced sooner than later.

    Stick with Japanese. Suzi and Kawi 600 parts are cheap and plentiful. The SV650 is a great choice. If it means anything, I've been juggling the idea myself with the following:
    1. Ninja 250 or 500
    2. SV650
    3. Sought after a NT650 hawk but never heard back from owner

    I'd stay away from Triumph...

    Don't know, I think tail frame section is bent at least... I should know more in next couple days...

    swingarm pivot goes through the stock rearsets, PITA if you need to replace them after a crash
