So I have an odd issue with the TRAC system on my 1984 VF500F. The sticker that shows the adjustment numbers came off and I cannot tell what setting it is on. The dial does have a set screw in it that when clicked into the detents either points straight up to 12 o'clock or rotates to 3, 6, or 9. Anyone know which setting (1,2,3,4) this set screw corresponds to? I suppose I could goes ride over speed bumps while braking for a while and try to make a guess at what is the firmest, but I figured someone on here may be able to point me (and my TRAC dial) in the right direction.

IME it makes no difference where you set it. It just doesn't work.

Almost always the bikes i've seen are set at #3. It does work, i believe, but not so well. Works best if you have fresh, clean fork oil.

What is the purpose of TRAC? I only ask because I didn't even notice the little knob there until last week (even though I've inspected the bike thoroughly a few times.) Apparently it has been set on 1 since I've had it...

This is the knob from the VF1000RE - the number 4 is aligned with the grub screw. Just looked up the parts list and this is the same part as the VF500F. So yours will be the same.

No speed bump needed. I chose the setting with the least brake dive. Works pretty good, but no substitute for stiffer springs.

    Glad you got it sorted.
