Yesterday, one of my co-workers was leaving the shop on a bike he was in the process of buying...actually on his way to go give the owner the cash and sign over the papers when he was side-swiped by a pickup truck, just a 1/2 mile from the shop.
Apparently, he was riding along at about 45 mph when a pickup truck moved swiftly into his lane and into him from the side. I don't have all the details yet, but apparently, he severely broke his arm when the truck hit him, but somehow, someway, wound up landing in the bed of the pickup truck, while the bike went flying off into the median. The driver continued on for 3/4 to 1 mile before finally pulling over. I guess my buddy was too injured and disoriented to kick in the back window of the truck, which is what I would have done. Apparently, the driver of the pickup is claiming that he didnt know he hit anyone...we are pretty sure he tried to get away though...lucky they didn't get him for kidnapping !
Anyway, he's scheduled for surgery on his arm, but damn, what a "lucky" son of a gun.
Is that crazy or what ?

That sucks for your friend, but at least he's alive to tell the tale. How could the driver not know that he hit anyone? Hopefully the driver has insurance!!! A 180-200 lb object landing in the bed of the truck should be heard and felt. Let him know that I wish him a speedy recovery.

Probably had tossed back a few & was hoping he would fall out so he can escape.

I went through a windsheild (head on, with her on wrong side of the road) & the lady still drove 2 more blocks in shock, she only stopped because I was yelling @ her to stop.
I ended up with (another) dislocated shoulder, bruised hip, & sprained neck.

It's :censored: dangerous out there

Hope your buddy is OK & that doesn't prevent him from getting back on & enjoying bikes.

Sounds painful but mildly amusing, not @ the time I'm sure though.

this site has definitely injected a bit of extra riding caution into me reading this stuff. Glad the guy didn't kill him. More and more I believe when your number is up.....
