    Hey folks,

After driving my '85 vf500f2 all summer and winter I ran into my first real problem and I'm guessing its a bad one. The problem is when I drive the bike and rev up above 4.5k rpm I start hearing a loud screeching noise that seems to come from the front cylinder head and it keeps going till i drop my revs back to ~1.5k rpm and then wont come back till im back up at 4.5k.
Before I jump to conclusions and tear the motor apart I figured here was the best place to ask for some advise. Whats the first step here? Can I somehow safely test the oil flow to the heads, because it seems like an oil pump problem of some sort. Or should I just open up the engine and go from there?

    tia,

It's fairly easy to remove the front valve cover. I'd start there and inspect cam bearings and journals...see if it's dry. If it becomes clear there's a lube problem, you can always reinstall the cover to do an oil pressure test.

Dizzy is on it, do not start it again until you inspect for damage.

haha, you guys are hilarious... :)

I'll pull the valve cover next week and see what happens. After reading about all the topend oil problems with the vf500f im surely hoping this is not the end for my vf500f

It doesn't sound good at this point, but there's always hope. If the bike is really mint it's probably worth some time and money for the repair. I really liked the VF500 I had...the perfect bike for city commutes, kinda wish I still had it.
