Know someone was just asking about getting a torque wrench, and thought this might be of interest to others as well. It looks like Sears will offer 20% off all Craftsman tools on Saturday, plus have some of the other tool brands they sell on sale too. Craftsman aren't the absolute best tools out there, but they are pretty darn good, and just fine for most of us "shade tree mechanics." And most of us have a Sears nearby if you ever need to apply their lifetime warranty. Spike << no connection to Sears at all, just thougth people would be interested

here's somethin I found out, though. even though kmart will sell you craftsman tools they will not warranty them. i had quite a discussion with the manager of kmart about my feelings on the subject and then emailed kmart complaint dept also....
crafstman are great... i did the old open end with a sledge hammer broke end off but got the bolt loose dam that 396 ss chevelle wish i still had it but took it to sears got a new one no questions asked.........
I picked up an inch pound 3/8" drive torque wrench and a set of those reversable ratchet flex head combination wrenches in Metric. and a few other goodies to add to the collection.
oh noo now its thinking about my tool z........... TOTALLY ADMIRES Zippers Deep down if reincaration exists TAZ would cumback as a zipper just to be near the things he loves and is..............................
This time it was being used as a pry bar? How the hell do you break a screwdriver twisting screws? The screw *always* quits first in my experience. Now, I did get a replacement for my 3/8" ratchet drive after I pulled on it with that 4' piece of pipe on the end. That is how you turn a Craftsman ratchet wrench into a Craftsman torqued wrench!
okay guys i didnt want to start a new thread since we are talking about tools here....i am in the process of doing F2 conversion and at the step where i have to get steering stem out and having it pressed into f2 triples...now the dilemma, i was eyeing a 12 and 20 ton press so i can just press it in myself and tacking it in place. but i was thinking is the cost of a 12 or 20 ton press worth it considering that will most likely be the only time i am going to use it. I guess my question is, is it worth the investment for a 12 or 20 ton press VS taking it to a shop and having them do it. and IF it is, should i go with the 12 or 20 ton press.
That depends how much you think you are gonna use this press, and your $$$ situation. Personally, unless I had another need for a press, I would probably just bring it into the shop and have them press-fit it. Oh, and bigger is always better....well, unless you are talking about women, or.....
fatso... for me, it depends on what the shop would charge. A press from harbor frieght is just over $100, I'm not using it much so that would be good enough to do the job maybe ten times, but then a big press takes up alot of space. So will a local shop that has a press do it for a reasonable price compared to the cost of getting your own? I had a wheel bearing pressed in/out on my Accord. Dude didn't want to mess with my shade-tree business, but said he'd look at it after I said do your best but don't spend more than 30 min. with it. He charged me $20 for a job I've had to do once in twenty years... so I'm fine with not buying that tool. (did I just say I was O.K. not buying a tool? wtf?... I'm older I guess) ... stuka is using his admin priv's to copy my posts. He's like delaying my posting time by three minutes so he looks like he was faster... jeez.. :wink:
