Toddler to the Hospital

Okay, so we were sitting home aflter dinner tonight and decided to make cookies.... this all went good. was sitting down to do homework and the baby starts screaming and crying...... whenI get her calmed down enough to tell me what happened she said she stuck a pony bead up her nose..

I tried to look up her nose and so did her mom but we couldn't see anything and the baby kept insisting she put a bead up there. we decide a trip to the emergency room was needed and we called her pediatrician to let her know what was going on and off we go...

the whole staff was great . the doc tried to "fish" it out but, if anyone has tried to hold a toddler down this is like trying to hold a cat that doesn't want to be held. After several attempts, and all of them failures, the dec tells us they can sedate the baby, and then remove it....
so we agree to this plan of attack , which apparently is not all that uncommon. they shot her up with Ketamine, which works quickly and wears of just as fast..as my kid is screaming from the big ass needle they used she dropped into this katatonic state which scared the living shit out of me...I have used this stuff on animals and heard the same gurgling sounds come from them as were coming from my daughter. all said and done the whole thing took about 45 seconds after she was "out" to remove the offending bead. and an hour for her to shrug off the affects of the drug. man what an effect .... we are home after 3 hours in the ER and the baby is sleeping and swears that she won't put anything in her nose ever again.........till the next time she does..............

Sorry to hear that trama, but if it makes you feel any better, When I was a kid I stuck one of those erasers that you put on top of a pencil so far up my nose, I had to have the same thing done. So its not uncommon. Glad she is ok.

 

Scary for sure! Glad it worked out for you.

 

Definitely scary, but as was mentioned before, kids do crazy stuff all of the time. Back in the day, I had a similar experience with a pea sized rock crammed in my ear...

Glad it turned out ok.

 

After receiving the Ketamine did she want to put on candy jewelry and go to a rave LOL !!

it was enough thta she looked like.......the lights were on but no one was home.. I just got up to go to school and she is sleeping as if nothing happened...she did however, while still doped... when she was coming around, say something like whoa I flying on the ground! look at my hand...........

Glad she is OK. there is no better payback than having kids.......

 

I'm really glad she is okay. Having raised two kids, I can tell you that this probably isn't going to be your only visit to the ER. Kids will do the dumbest things. :tongue:

 

I am pretty cool with the "regular" ER visit, fever, sick stuff...I can be the rock of gibralter on things like that...but seeing her stoned like she was having to rely on the O2 mask to keep her levels up was down right nerve racking....it makes you feel helpness... and yeah, I have a hard time being helpless when it comes to my daughter.......

 

I totally understand that. There's nothing worse than looking at your child in that condition and knowing that you can't do anything about it. I certainly didn't intend to make light of any ER visit, and I sincerely hope you don't have to do it again. It takes amazing strength to raise children, and I applaud you for it my friend. :thumbsup:

Glad she is ok, I am sure I will have my own adventures like this before too long.

 

I would put money on it...pretty darn sure its not even close to being the last time...
