I'm sure this has been asked countless times but what are some tire recommendations for the '85 vf700f? I'm not touching the wheels for my restoration so they are stock. Also any recommendations on where to buy?

Additionally, what do you guys recommend for primer/paint? I will be spraying...

    Thanks.

On my 1985 VF700F I had the Avon RoadRider tires. They're supposedly the best all-around bias ply tires you can get and one of the few brands that have both sizes for these bikes.

I bought them from Rocky Mountain Motorcycle/ATV with a coupon code I found on google and got both tires shipped for about $150. Pretty damn good deal.

I had Arrowmax Dunlops before I upgraded to modern wheels/tires (underimpressed). I went with TCP Global paint products... Urethane 2 stage (online) about $200 cheaper than PPG, came out nice no issues. It's still expensive to do RWB but if your going to spend the time and do all the prep it's nice to have it come out nice and hold up like factory paint.

I had always been a Dunlop fan. They stopped making the 591's. So I tried the GT501. The rear was fine and the front sucked big time. I was glad when they needed changing. I went with the Conti-Go's. Just like the ones IC pointed to. Fantastic tires in dry or wet. Very good feel with them.

Stay away from anything on the front that has ribs or single center line all around. The small 16" wheel size doesn't like ribbed tires and neither do I. Crosscut tread seems to work the best as far as I'm concerned.

Grey, I am hoping that I am insensitive to the part of the 501 that you didn't like. My VFR came with Duro tire on the front so I think the Dunlap is great by comparison :) There is always next year. I'll put the Conti Go on my list thanks.

I'm sorry, can you explain your acronyms? I got the TCP global paint part but what is PPG and RWB?

    Thanks.

(RWB) Honda Red/White/Blue paint scheme, PPG Pittsburg Plate and Glass I think... high quality auto paints etc, fairly pricey but I've had good luck with their products.
