I would appreciate any recommendations on replacement tires for a 97 vfr750. My bike has almost 15K on it and the front is getting a little thin. I'm the second owner and it still have the original battle axes on it.

One thread I read suggested staying with the battle axes due to the feel, but I see/hear that Metzlers are a good choice. I'm not a race track guy, but I do like to dive in and play in the corners, no knee dragging though. Plus I need a good touring tire so I can do my longer rides.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    DPH

+1 on the Metzelers. I have SportTec M1s front and rear and i think they are great.

I just put a set of Continental Road Attacks on my '97. I bought them purely based on the consitently positive reviews I was reading. I wasn't disappointed: they're very stable, and were a great value. Like any tire, let them warm up a bit before really taxing them. I've read that they have good longevity, but time will tell on the that one.

+1 to Contis. I have had 3 different rears on my VFR so far and like them the best. I also tried Battlax on my Seca II but I never pushed the bike enough to know the real tire performance.

I had the new Dunlop Qualifiers on mine and was very satisfied with them. I now have a new Mich Pilot Power on it, but have not ridden it to see how it is.

Re: tires - what size as well in the rear??

I have Bridgestone BT012SS front and rear on my bike, on when I bought it and honestly a tire this sticky is not warranted for the style of most of my riding. I like to play in the corners too, but I'm not using all of the edge of these tires, the last 3/8" is still barely scrubbed much less worn out.

I'm leaning toward the Conti Road Attack rear and maybe the Sport Attack front, I like to replace both together and this I think might even out the wear.

Oh, BTW on a 3G (mine's a 1993) do you guys run stock size in the rear (170/60-17) or do you run the 180/55-17? Mine has the120/70 front and 180/55 rear on it now and although I love the look of the bigger back tire, when I replace it I'd like to know which works better, balancing grip with crisp turn-in. Anyone run both sizes with some qualified comments?

    Steve

180/55 is what goes on the 3rd and 5th-6th only the 4th gets the 170 as it's only a 5" width on the rim. I have tried putting a 180 on mine then back to the 170, the 170 does, Duh! have a faster turn in rate, even I can tell, so even thou I like the looks of the 180 I'm sticking to the 170. thats the other reason I'm running on Pirellis. Great tire.

After experimenting with several vfrs and tire brands, currently my recommendation is Pilot Roads. Not much less sticky than the Powers, and cheaper, and last a LOT longer. Plus, the VFR likes to cup the fronts on some brands.
