Anyone know what the biggest rear tire I can fit on my vf500? Looking to update the sneakers and want a little more usable tread.

    Thanks

I would watch how much larger tire you go - it will slow down the steering.

I think its got a 110 on it now I was thinking maybe going with a 120 but not sure on the profile. I've got another set of stock rims and tires. so it probably won't be until next fall when I go bigger.
I'm in the process of stripping the rims to bare and either paint them black or leave them bare with some clear coat.

120 should work fine. The main problem with going any bigger on there is that the wheel is too narrow. You can physically get a bigger tire on, but the beads will be so pinched that you won't get any more tread on the ground and may even have less than stock. Also, as was already stated, changing widths will affect the steering and handling, sometimes better, sometimes worse.

I just checked the rear on the parts bike and it's a Chen shin 120/90/18 and it's Identical to the one on my bike. What if you went one up with the width and one down with the height to a 130/80/18. I'm pretty new to working on bikes I know cars pretty good but I've only had a steady bike for the last 2 years. I checked the archives but I didn't see anyone running that size.

So if you have a 120/90 its alredy wider than stock that is 110/90 on a vf500. I dont recomend to go any wider than stock, and sertanly not any wider than what the rim allow. I dont know what whid a vf500 rim is. For example, my wifes 550 has a 2.15 rear rim, and 110/90 stock, and the smallest rim widht for a 110/90 is 2.15, so a 120/90 would be too wide. a 120/90 asks for a rim 2.50 wide to 3.00 wide, a 130/80 a rim 3.00 wide to 3.50.

And a fat tire on a thin rim usually dont look fater then a tire than suts it.
Get a qvality tire like a pirelli sport demon or simular and enjoy, its far better to ride than a ower wide ching chen that usually has poor grip anyway.
By the way, the 110/90 sportsdemon I got for my wifes bike looks fatter than the old metz me99 that was on it. bling.

I just checked my parts bike and the rim is 2.75 inches wide. so I guess 120 is as big as it gets. Does the rim from a cbr f1 fit on to an interceptor I thought I read that in another post. if so is it any wider?

I am also interested in what tires I can put on my bike that are not in stock in my local store. I was thinking a 140/80v-18. But I was told that it wouldn't fit on a 750. I think that they are wrong but I would like to have a confirmation before I buy.

The vf 750 has a 2,5 wide rim front and 3,00 rear. typical for that time narowest that the oem tire can take. A 140/80 can take a 3,00 rim if its a diagonal type, and if you find one that make a street tire in that deminsion. Again for best ridability stay whit stock size.

Stock size is the problem. I am finding it hard to find stock sizes around town. There is other sizes that are available on the shelf now. :frusty: but I don't know if they will fit my rim.

We had a warm spell and I uncovered the bike. I noticd that the rear is a chen shin 130/80/18 so I guess going bigger isn't an option. Just looks small compaired to the newer bikes.

Yeah I know what you mean, last summer I went to the dealer to order some new tires, and I told the guy the size of the rear tire,
and then he said "Okay, what's the rear size?"
and I was like "Ah, that was the rear chief!"

They are much narrower than new ones these days.
Still, I haven't really had problems with traction so I guess it works!
