Since I have a time out from riding, I decided to get the front wheel powder coated white. Took it apart tonight, take it to my friend who runs a powder coating shop. He said that if I drop it off to him tomorrow he will take it in Monday. He said he can sneak it in and have it done by Monday evening.

Here it is all black. Still have to pull the bearings and take the tire off and valve stem out.

More pics when I get it back.

I think the white wheels look great. Looking forward to seeing the pics when you get it done and put back on the bike. I plan to get it done some day but have too many other things ahead of that on my list of modifications to do (HIDs, Sargent seat, risers) and not enough $$.

White wheels look great but are utter bastards to clean. My old CBR600 jellymould had white wheels and the only time they looked clean was just after they'd been washed. As soon as they dried off they looked dirty again.

That thought certainly crossed my mind. For now, I have white, reflective wheel tape. Not quite as dramatic (or nice) as the powder coated wheels and I'm not sure if I like them. I'll keep them on for now and see if they grow on me. Worst case, I can peel them right off.

I thought about the white looking grungy. But the black wheel just had to go. I am to OCD to have one black and one white. The OCD also comes in handy for a wash every time I get back from a ride.

Just dropped the wheel off at my friends. He said if he got bored today, he would probably take it down and get it done today. WOOOOOOT! After I took it off I noticed it needs new brakes. Off to pick up some EBC HH Monday or Tuesday since I am not sure my favorite shop is open on Labor Day.

Just got a call from my guy. The wheel is cooling down. He said it looks fantastic. He even said he would press the bearings back in and mount the tire. He said it will be dropped off by 8 my time. So 45 minutes!

I too had rim tape on my '07 for a while when I first got it. I waited until the first tire change to powder coat the rims white. It was well worth it and only cost me $100 for both. They are a piece of cake to clean and usually don't take more than 15 minutes. The white when dirty still looks better than the black any day.

I woke up to a wheel on my front porch. He left a bill that totaled exactly 1 BBQ home grilled burger and 8 bottles of beer. The wheel looks good, he mounted the tire and pressed in the bearings. I think it is worth a bit more than he billed, so I think it will be 1 Grilled Porterhouse steak, as many beers as he wants and maybe even some grilled veggies.

Now if I could only find my locktite I will get the rotors on it and
mounted back on the bike. The shop I use is closed today so brakes tomorrow. Then I need to find a right rear passenger mount. The whole thing, it came with a left, but the PO could not find the right side.

Just talked with my neighbor and he said that the rotor mount should not be powdered. S this true? Do I need to clean up the rotor mounting area with a razor?

Yes, that is very true. The rotors will come loose if the surface is not cleaned. Getting that back off is easier said than done.

After spending half an hour per side, I finally got the rotor mounts cleaned off. A combination of razor blade and sand paper. My arms are tired, BUT.......

Next thing on my list is making heat shields out of carbon fiber to get rid of the chrome.

Looks great. You're now a little closer to going for that Canadian Black & White color scheme which looks awesome.

    Remove wheel from forks.

    Remove rotors.

Clean with a good cleaner (409, simple green, etc.). Dry.

Wax with the hardest wax you can afford, polish, repeat.

Remount. Now you can clean them with a water hose.
