My throttle hand is getting sick of the vibrations through the grip. My 94 VFR has some vibrations going on especially through the throttle and I am wondering whether it is time for a fork rebuild? Bike has 68830kms on it and I have had it for 5 months. Good idea to rebuild the original fork or any other ideas to stop the vibrations?
    Cheers
    Shane

First check engine mounting bolts for tightness. Next do a chain inspection looking for tight and loose spots. Then maybe try a good carb synch followed by a front wheel bearing inspection. One thing that WON'T help is working on the forks : nothing to do with your problem.

Know the service history of the bike ??

The trick is to determine the frequency of the vibration and find the parts that may be moving fast enough to cause it. As squirrelman mentioned above check the stuff that's moving quick. Chain, engine, wheels etc. Does it change with RPM or speed?

Is this a new vibration or has it always been there? Check thins that rotate first. Like what was said, carb balance, loose bolts can cause vibrations. Also, check your tires (tyres). They may be cupping.

On a different note, are your wheeles stock? My '94 has black wheels, but it is a US version. I sure would like a set of gold wheels!

Regardless of whether a fork rebuild is needed or not, a fluid change for them is probably in order if it has never been done.

The service history is something I am unsure of as bought the bike interstate unseen and had it shipped to me. Today I have rebuilt both front brake calipers, replaced the dirtiest air filter I have ever seen, fitted new plugs, replaced engine oil, filter and gaskets as well as replacing the spark plugs and the head cover gaskets. New grips will go on when I get her back together. Hopefully tomorrow.

Tyres are new and slightly better after checking pressures yesterday, running 36psi front and rear. Will check and adjust the chain and check all mounting bolts whilst I have her in pieces and nude.
Wheels are stock and previous owner/s repainted them gold.
The vibration seems constant, will keep you posted.
I don't get to ride her as much as I would like and notice the vibes when commuting 15km to work. Could seat position have an effect with the weight forward on the arms? I work alot with cyclists and I know positioning can load up the arms giving tingling hands etc, any thoughts?
