Hi all, from the UK. Currently own a '98 Thundercat which I've been using to commute 40 mile daily to uni and it's been amazing but I feel it's slightly out dated and even though I'm only 21 feel like I need something even more comfortable. Don't get me wrong the Cat is easily good for 200 miles plus daily but it lacks things such as a decent instrument panel setup and double stand. I've been looking for a good alternative because I can feel my second gear going ((common problem) and need a change. Test ridden the vtec and 55th gen but prefer the 5th. I've read quite a few posts. Anything I should be aware of when looking at a used vfr800 and anyone who came from a thundercat or cbr600f?
Hello and :welcome: I've ridden a Thundercat and found it very similar to an R6 I had a few years ago. I do find the VFR to be a hell of a lot more comfortable though! On many forums and in many posts people talk about the bad electrics VFR's have. Especially the rectifier/regulator. I have been a victim of it myself and when it fails you will be left with a dead battery. So think I would check to see if it has a new one fitted. My 5th Gen wasn't looked after by the previous owner, and the rear wheel hub seized solid with rust and corrosion. If the chain adjuster moves lovely and smooth and has been kept clean then shouldn't be any problems. Lots of people also say the rear suspension is lacking and wont last. I haven't found a problem with mine yet though and I've ridden mine for about 16,000 miles in the year I've had it. As with any Honda they are solid, built to last, and as long as they have been looked after they will trek on and on. Good luck in the search.
Thank you Robbie. I hope to have a vfr in 1-2 months time. Needing the extra comfort. Thanks for the heads up
