My old thread was too long apparently. Was trying to give enough detail but apparently it was too much detail. I purchased a 98 Honda vfr800 had a tps issue so I purchased a throttle body that ended up being for a 00-01. New throttle body is complete with all sensors and untouched wiring harness. And was off a running bike with low miles. There are obvious differences like the wax unit. But that seems to be the only main difference. Was wondering if there is a thread that would show me how to either hook up the wax unit and use that or convert it to the original choke. Was wondering if I could remove the starter valves from the old unit and mount it to the new unit without having to re calibrate the valves. Or swap the bracket that controls the starter valves with the cable operated one. I just want this baby to run. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you
I have experience of the 98/99 but not the 00/01. The difference is the wax unit which automates the cold fast idle function. I know the “choke” cable operates the plate which opens the starter valves and I assume the wax unit does the same so it would seem possible to either swap parts to make the choke cable work, or get the wax unit working, To make the wax unit work you need to connect water hoses to pass coolant across the wax unit, I’m not sure where the water hoses connect on a 5G but the manual might help. In any case, I would definitely suggest adjusting the starter valves to achieve the correct vacuum at idle.
