I never rode a bike until I was 51 years old. I just shudder to think of what may have happened had I started riding earlier in life. Good post. Stay safe everyone.

Well. That's not entirely true. When I was 13, I rode an icecream bike. Rolled that heavy sucker going down a hill and turning a corner. Sure screwed up a lot of product that time.

    Good find Lint.
It is something that crosses my mind before every ride.
I'm 52, and still enjoy riding fast, always have.
Had a break for 18 years while I started a family (late in life) and our own business, and debated getting another bike after so long.
Some of my friends ride to cruise, even on fast bikes, I ride to get to my limit, and try and learn form every outing.
I'm not a great rider, far from it, I'm aware of all my bad habbits developed over many years, and I now have the patience to slowly try and change them.
Nothing is more satisfying then coming up to a young bloke on the latest crotch rocket, and leave him behind on the tight stuff, because your entry speed is twice his.
I can think of nothing worse then leaving my family to fend for themselves, beacuse I was too selfish to give up my bike, but I just can't see myself ever being bikeless again.
I'm much more careful now, I don't commute, and pick where I go fast and where I don't.
I had a big eye opener a while back, when after a weekend away with my wife and friends, my wife told my eldest that we were doing 200kmh on fast sweeper, (I wouldn't have told them) my daughter's reaction was to get angry, and say that we're never allowed to do that again with both of us on the bike.
    I see her point.
    But shit it felt good.

Nice story. I got the life long motorcycle nut thing out of the way when i first started dating my wife. I am 49 and am gona be a father in the near future, its far out to hear my wife tell me that the doctor heard a strong heart beat. It still wont affect my riding habits or frequency, FTW. Not selfish, "Live to Ride-Ride to Live." Peace

At 49?! You horny bastard. Good thing you added that last part to this sentence otherwise I would be inclined to blackmail you by telling your wife.

Oz, I hear ya. I haven't ridden fast two up, but I've ridden fast and I love the hell it off it, but I think I'm going to slow it down some. After the speeds I've hit in turns, after patient learning, I've decided any faster is going to have to be on the track. I can control my bike, but I can't control cars.

It is definitely scary...I stopped riding at 18. I had an 89 ninja 600 that I was gonna get killed on...I had no fear and no sense. I raced it like I was racing motorcross. I WAS STUPID!
Over the years and two kids, good job and tons of household responsibilities has me a lot wiser. I have longed to have a bike and ride (something I have never done)...I took the leap and am ready to hit the open road. I feel better about riding moving here...not so much traffic, nice country roads...but ALOT of deer!
