Found a 1986 VF500 parts bike locally...thinking of buying it for parts....looks like a hindle exhaust there.

I'm wondering what people would be interested in wanting off the bike and the amount willing to spend on said part so I know what to offer the guy.

Yes...the hindle is up for grabs also. (If the price is worth the effort to remove and ship)

There is no seat and the tank is Fubar'd.

Give me some specifics so I can look at them when I see the bike this weekend.

The paint looks really scuffed on the fork tubes from what I can see in the pic.

I'll look closer at the sliders this weekend.

If you buy it, I need:

    Clutch lever
    Fork cap(s)
    One lower cowl bolt
    One fusebox screw.

You can get the Cowl bolts from Honda and the Clutch lever from Ebay pretty cheap.

    FYI.

I could use fuse box cover , starter switch and turn sig. switch if they are in working order.

Tried Honda for the bolts and caps, was told they were discontinued. Figured you and your parts bike would be cheaper than eBay for clutch lever (especially since you are in Canadia already and won't rape me on shipping/duties/etc)

I have a Hindle on my 500, that one looks to be cobbled together. Still, if it has the header then someone could add whatever muffler they wanted.

That lower cowl would be nice in the hot summer instead of the full front fairing I have now.

I also need a hose clamp for the fuel line at the carb
a wire crimp for the electrical wire at the brake light
oh, and both those yellow reflector thingies.

but I can't make ya any promises about actually being able to buy anything, sorry.

Cobbled together....really? What part exactly....the exhaust looks like a regular aftermarket Hindle to me.

I'd be more than happy to help you out....though maybe you should try another Honda delaership....I got about 6 new Cowl bolts from my honda dealership a few months ago.....very shiney!

The tank is bang'd up pretty good and there isn't a seat.....which isn't a big deal for me cause I have a spare seat and tank....but the guy isn't sure if it runs and the last time I spoke to him he doesn't really care.

I suppose that's why it's cheap. I tell you, I've built decent bikes out of worse! It seems like you could get that one going and have something of value. It's a lot of work to tear down a bike and considering that you probably would only make a couple hundred bucks I don't really think it's worth the effort.

I actually don't know what he wants for it...the Ad says $10 and up.

If it runs and the engine doesn't sounds noisy I'd definitely think about getting her up to spec and selling it.

Trouble is people around here ask for wayyyy too much for bikes.

give him $50 bucks and consider it an investment in spare parts for yourself. The first time you need clutch slave cylinder or an elecrtrical component, it'll have paid for itself.

Or I suppose you have storage issues??

I do have storage issues....no garage or shed.

It'll end up under a tarp covered in snow

did you see how the forks looked? I bet they'd look like rocket launchers in a crate going thru customs coming from Canada.

So i just got back from looking at the bike....it ain't pretty.

It has 76,000kms on the odometer. I think the bike has been out of commission since 2005

The carbs were off the bike for well over a year while it sat outside so the guy selling it is pretty sure the motor is full of water and crap.
The bike also came with a box of parts including Valves and Valve seals as well as a new head gasket. I assume the motor is toast.

The forks look okay...the red paint has been scuffed off both tubes and the metal fixed tubes look okay.

Looks like there's a new front Metzler tire on there. Wheels look okay.

The Clutch cover has a shit load of RTV where it mates to the motor so I assume some work has been done.

The Front Fairing is badly painted but the windshield looks alright.

    Side fairings look okay.

Lower cowl has been cut to allow clearance for the Hindle 4-1 exhaust. (Is that normal?)

The Hindle exhaust is a little banged up (I'd still put it on my bike if I could go through the trouble of jetting the bike)...the muffler is scraped and one of the tubes coming off the front head has a dent.

Carbs are intact but have been sitting outside so they will most likely need work.

Tank is dented to shit and the Gas cap lock cylinder is frozen.

The guy is pretty firm on $300 for it. I showed quite alot of unhappiness at that price and he grudgingly offered to deliver it to me if I give him $300.
