just been shopping around and noticed that the vfr is a beautiful bike, just wondering if they are good for first time street bike riders, I've riden dirt bikes all my life but never a street bike.
I think of the VFR as a "middle of the road" bike. Not the fastest, not the best long range bike, not the highest mileage..... it just does Everything Really Well. I just took a 1300 mile trip on my 2000. fun in the twisties comfy enuf on the slab, got good fuel mileage, carried 3 bag fulls of stuff (4 if you count the tank bag) i did back to back 450 mile days - no sweat. 0-60 in first gear 3.2 seconds......faster than a corvette. so........ like what do you need?....want? it's not a harley - if that is important. or BMW or Ducati or a Triumph or an R1. won't go 200 mph. probably 140 - 150 is about all. probably pretty lame off-road, to be honest. I wouldn't try it...... there are reports of viffers lasting 800,000+ miles. I probably wouldn't recommend it carte blanche as a first bike....but you could probably make it work. I'm on my second one & it will probably be the last bike i get rid of....... oh....and the sound of the V4 & the gear driven camshaft..............
If you are taller, you can make it work. You'll just have to get used to the weight. Being able to get your foot down in time will help, if the need arises. Having dirt bike experience is a big plus. I will strongly recommend you take an MSF course. I have an 06 as my first ever bike. Before the VFR, I had NEVER ridden a motorcycle. I have no regrets or second thoughts about getting one. I actually found it to be easier (and of course more refined) to ride than the dirt bikes I used at my MSF course. The 125cc Honda dirt bikes sounded and smelled like lawnmowers. Take your time to get used to it. The ergos are perfect, and the bike is very rewarding. My only complaint so far is that the stock seat is not working for me. I ordered a Sargent seat from SandHills Motorsports. I'll post an update after I receive and test it out later this week. Good luck to you, and let us know how you decision goes.
