Hey guys. Like the title says, I am thinking of putting a new windscreen on the VFR but I am not sure what to go with. I actually really like the size and look of the stock screen. I shot the back side of mine with black plasti-dip and on my black bike, I really like the way it looks so I want a really dark smoke screen. I do not do a lot of high speed interstate riding, mostly back roads so I certainly don't need or really want a big screen.

I am about 5'-7" and have done a LSL bar conversion on the bike so I guess I am looking for suggestions on a dark colored screen that is not huge and is closer to the stock shape. But a little more wind protection certainly would not hurt my feelings.

If you have good pictures of what is on your bike, please post them up.

    Thanks guys!

If you like the shape of the original, why not stay with the black plastidip. Easy to apply and remove and cheap. I have a Zero Gravity double bubble and like it. I like the shape of the Puig double bubble better though. The ZG like the OEM have those "dogs ears" up in the corners that are easily broken when you drop it where as the Puig slopes straight down to the upper fairings. IMGP0907.jpg IMGP1011.jpg

I just bought an MRA Variotour and it is absolutely top notch and I don't hesitate to recommend it.

You can still see through the smoke version, so you would need to plasti-dip in order to get it totally dark. I really like the smoke version as is.

Thanks for the response guys. Not sure what to go with yet so I have been trying to look at pictures and see what people do and don't like.

As far as mine goes, I have it sprayed on the back side so it is a smooth and glossy look on the outside. It is just starting to show its age and has its share of fine scratches on it too. Its really not that bad but I was just thinking about wanting to swap it out . And if I am going to swap it out then I might as well swap it for something with just a tad more wind coverage.

The MRA provides outstanding wind protection. The airfoil thingie on top makes it adjustable so you can have more pressure against your chest on highway rides. I don't think there is anything better or more flexible out there.

I got me a double bubble one. Wonder if it's possible to attach the airfoil or have to get a brand new one...

You can attach the airfoil, but it runs about $150. The whole screen was $175.

I did see someone make an airfoil out of a firefighter face shield and it looked great.

If you're looking for a windscreen that's close to the overall stock shape but provides just a bit more wind protection Rigger then either a Puig Racing double bubble windscreen or a Powerbronze Airflow double bubble windscreen would be an excellent choice.

The Red windscreen in the pic below is a Puig and the Amber,Violet, and Dark Green windscreens are all Powerbronze.

In the pic below you can see the difference in the curved profile shape of the double bubble at the trailing edge of the windscreens.
The Red Puig in the foreground on the left is more rounded whereas the other three Powerbronze windscreens are a bit more flat.

Look closely at this next pic Rigger and you can see that the double bubble on the Red Puig windscreen starts much closer to the leading edge of the windscreen while the double bubble on the Amber Powerbronze starts quite a bit further up the windscreen.

Both brand windscreens are made of thick sturdy plastic and both are very stout. Last time I checked (2 years ago) the Puig Racing double bubble windscreen was offered in 10 different color options including clear while the Powerbronze Airflow double bubble windscreen was offered in 22 different color options including clear.

Just a heads-up,the price of a Powerbronze windscreen varies depending upon which color option you choose and they're also made to order so it usually takes a little more time to get one.

Sorry I don't have any shots of a Powerbronze Airflow windscreen mounted up on my bike Rigger but here's an old pic of my bike with a Dark Smoke Puig Racing double bubble windscreen mounted on it.

Did you bike cause that plane to crash?

Nice response with pix Stosh! You always step up to the plate where you can.

Tucking in behind a screen on a bike is sort of rare. Painted both sides of a BMW screen (R100RS). I was looking for a matte look. Your stock screen can be cleaned with any number of cleaners or just buffed with compound inside or out.

The Plasticoat is going to fail eventually. A more permanent coating is paint. A clear or smoked screen painted black on the inside will appear glossy on the outside. ( lens effect) This can be demonstrated by holding a sheet of clear glass over even a wall surface that has been painted with a flat or matte paint.

The paint? Almost any paint that is not waterbase (waterbourne. will work if the surface is clean.

Go for three coats. First a mist coat allowing it to dry. Second coat: A heavier application. Not too heavy since the curvature of the shield lends to the paint running. let that dry.. Third coat: Go for full coverage.

Yes... Take the shield off the bike..

I put a Zero Gravity sport touring screen on this summer. I use it anytime it's cold or if I'm going on any trip that includes interstates. Like the looks of the stock screen better but the zero gravity works well.

I too have the Zero Gravity Double Bubble. It allows tucking, pulls the pressure off of my shoulders in comparison to the stock screen while being close in size. I actually compared them by placing the ZG over the stock screen and there is only a small size difference. But, the added curvature of the Double Bubble does work well. I feel that this would provide you with exactly what you're looking for. Similar in size, but with your height, it would most likely dump the air right over the top of you. The tint is pretty dark, but you can still see through it. Useful if you are riding off into the sunset and the sun is low on the horizon, blinding you. I have just laid down on my tank and looked through it and saved my eyesight.

I don't recommend the Zero Gravity DB screen. For me, functionally it works well but it was a pain to install (poor fit) and it didn't even last one season before it cracked. Seems like the plastic is flimsy and poor quality. Also on the back side I can see a distorted reflection of the tachometer which I find annoying. Thinking about switching to a Givi or a Puig. My brother had a Puig on his old FZ6 that he really liked.

I think the choice depends on your upper-body height. I tried a Zero Gravity touring windscreen and it buffeted the heck out of me. I shifted back to a Zero Gravity stock-size windscreen and it's perfect. And it looks better, too.
