Any gearhead can probably answer this one real quick as I am sure its a common thing....

My thermostat will intermittantly go all over the map while riding. It will indicate 72c, then jump instantly to 110c, then back to double digits, and so on and so forth. Never has overheated, so I am assuming there is a loose wire or some sort of grounding issue.

Any help? Common issue? Quick fix? Thanks.

Could be a bad ground wire, maybe the thermostat (not your gauge) is sticking, bad radiator cap, or could even be an air pocket in the system.

I would hope your engine is not heating/cooling that quickly. I'd look at the temp. sending unit. It works through the ground so, you might be able to loosen it a little, then tighten it back up. This should break-up any corrosion which is between the sending unit and the engine. It's worth a try.

+1 - "Intermittent while riding" sounds like a loose wire or poor ground.

I realize this is an old thread but has anyone found a solution to this problem. I'm having the same issues on my 2004 with 23000 miles. I'm going to check all the connections before I try replacing the thermostat.
