Like most of you guys I really start getting depressed when I can't ride my bike for an extended period of time. I live in Atlanta and am very grateful that we do not have brutal winter weather here like most Northern states. Well this morning I decided that I was riding my bike to work regardless of how cold it was. I left for work this morning and the temp was hovering just below freezing. I don't have dedicated winter riding gear and ended up just putting on a pair of thermal underwear and glove liners underneath my summer gear. Needless to say it didn't work quite as well as I anticipated. Even though my fingers were a little numb and my nipples hard as rocks I still had a big ole' smile on my face when I got to work. My co-workers looked at me like I was a madman and couldn't understand why I would subject myself to cold weather conditions when I also have a car. I merely smiled at them and told them they wouldn't understand. Anyways...I'm just curious to know how many of you ride year round and what the coldest temp you have ever ridden in?

    Regards,

I am riding year round, regardless of temperature, but not when wet, snowy, or icy (unless I can't help it). For some reason, I love riding in cold weather. It just feels good. Not so much in very warm and hot weather, though... I sweat a lot.

I ride year round, but not that frequently anymore. Late fall through early spring are my favorite times, provided that the roads are dry. The coldest I ever ride in (on purpose, that is) is about 32 to 34, as my current gear works pretty well. An occasional dip to around 28 for five or ten miles is tolerable, but I really notice the difference.

The coldest I have ridden in was 18 for about thirty to forty minutes at 60 to 70 MPH, and that was no fun at all.

I rode last week with the same gear on when it was about 40 degrees and I didn't get cold at all. It's amazing what a few degrees difference makes in terms of comfort. So Cyborg....did the beautiful asian lady warm you up at all?

Got you beat: Dec 31 1988 (89?), OkC, Ok. I drove to a New Year's Party, 15 miles at 30-35 MPH in -12 degree temp. Time I got there, the inside of my faceshield was frosting up, my jacket was cold enough to stand on it's own and this one drop dead beautiful asian lady was looking at me like I was the toughest or craziest SOB she'd ever seen...

PS: F*** no, I will never do that again!

I ride year-round and the coldest I have ridden in was 28 degrees. I used a Gerbing's heated jacket liner so I stay nice and toasty no matter what the temp.

    Riding in the winter

I have been riding my 07 RWB thru the Winter since I purchased it. The coldest temperature so far has been 18 degrees a month ago in Hope Valley south of Lake Tahoe. Fortunately I have heated clothing which makes it tolerable. The roads at this temperature are dangerous in my opionion with patches of ice. Some of the best riding in my area is in the middle of Winter when the sky is clear and the days are cooler especially along the coast.

I ride year round no matter what: cold, rain, fog... Coldest I ever rode was 25 degrees on my old no fairing CB750 at 1 in the morning for my old 15 mile commute. I couldn't unbend my fingers on my throttle hand until I was in the house. I warmed my hands up by sticking them in-between the legs of my "at the time" girlfriend. :eyebrows:

I ride the VFR to work. Sometimes in the summer it is 120+ on the way home. In the winter it is once in a while down in the 20's. If I fail to ride the Harley guys say "is it too hot for the Jap Crap" or " Can't take the cold huh".....so I ride the VFR and show them that I and all of us VFR riders are true to the core. I am always the only Metric bike on the extreme days. If you doubt me the check out the temp for Blythe California on a given day. And ask about Captain Bart and the Black VFR.

Years ago I used to meet up with my friends for our annual Christmas ride. After getting done with our families on Christmas day we would meet about 9 or 10 pm and go TT racing. ( Tavern to Tavern. I know pretty stupid but it was the 70's and we were young and dumb.) In Chicago it is always cold at Christmas and usually snow on the ground but the city always did a good job of keeping the streets clear. We did this for 6 or 7 years and at times it was as cold as 0 deg. F. One year we came out of the tavern and we had 2" of fresh snow on the street. We all made it home safe but I think that was the last year we did it. It still brings me fond memories every Christmas Day.

Like Knife said, for some strange reason I love riding in the winter. Ok, you may think that over here in Greece we don't get low temps (and that's generally true) but around Jan/Feb the temp goes down to freezing point.

I remember taking a 1,000km trip a few years back with temps hovering around 3-4 degs Celsius (around 40 F). Add the chill effect and it was cold like heck, but man oh man did I enjoy the ride. Needless to say I was the only biker on the road; can't figure why people were looking at me all wide-eyed though...:cheersaf:

I ride year-round. Only thing that stops me is snow/ice on the streets. I don't want to screw with ice. If the temp is below 30, only short rides.

It's a bone chilling 25 degrees here in Atlanta this morning. I bought a pair of winter gloves yesterday and now have a windproof jacket liner. I am gearing up right now and getting ready to go for an all day ride. It's only 8:00am here and you should have seen the look on my neighbors face a few minutes ago when he saw me warming up the old Viffer in the garage.

Ha ha, when I saw the thread title I was expecting some kind of nasty love of the VFR thread.

I've been riding every day to/from work on the bike and what helps is I have winter gloves, rain suit, and extra-warm outdoor socks. What's really surprising is the rain suit really helps keep the cold out because it blocks the wind and it also acts as a weak kind of insulator.

But damn, I'm not that insane to go for an all day ride, I've only one 1-2 hour rides in the afternoon.

Enjoy the polar bear biker club there Rollin!

Year round rider. Teens is the coldest. No heated gear, just layers. Most important is the neck gator, for me that makes all the difference.

Now, I bleed Honda Pro Oil just as much the next Viffer but I draw the line at riding when it has to be behind a snowplow...
