The highest idle known to man... VF700F

Ok, so bike is back together but damn is my idle high. From start, no choke, starts first time and idle sits at about 3.5/4K nice and steady. Sounds great but not sure I should be running a 4K idle. I removed and refitted the carbs again (which have had new jets/seals/springs) but the same result. I’ve tried a squirt bottle of water around the new intake rubber pipes and nothing changes. Air is getting in somewhere, but I’ve not a clue where to start. Ideas please?

 

How much freeplay do you have in the cables at the grip?

 

bad carb synch could be the problem or incorrect float setting. as NCB says, be sure throttle cables have some slack.

 

Cables have slack, floats look within tolerance and so far no air leaks. Can only think that fuel screws are incorrect. Set to 2 1/2 turns and 3 turns out, only makes things worse. Set to almost zero and the bike isles at 1300rpm. So I guess something is wrong with the fuel delivery?!

 

if you can't shut down any cylinder by screwing in the idle mix screw, it must be getting fuel from somewhere else.......like a leaky float needle or internal crack or fuckedup (or wrong) mixture screw. sure you're not missing an O-ring on the mix screw or that idle speed adjustment screw is all the way backed out ?

 

Ok, so I pulled and stripped the carbs again. Nothing looks out of place, all jets, needles and rubbers in place, all the mix screws are new and have new o rings on them

 

Once, many moons ago , one of my carb sync screws came off the little perch it sits on. I hope I explained it correctly......
