All is not well. I injured my left knee on Tuesday. The word injured is a bit of an understatement. I was playing volleyball during squadron PT. I turned & my knee didn't. Nothing more in depth than that.

After my consultation with the Ortho Doc & seeing the MRI, I have exactly 1 ligament holding my left knee together. The doc said it will take at least a year to fully recover if I even can fully recover. I am on 2 weeks of convalescent leave from the AF. After that, I will have surgery. I will most likely need several. I am obviously off flight status for a long while & probably wont be able to return to flying until sometime next year.

I am not happy. Percocet & an understanding wife are about the only things putting even a slight smirk on my face. Ride safe all.

    Well, crap.

Seeing the title made me fear for your bike. Glad it was just your knee. You have another, use it well.

A double whammy. Can't fly, can't ride. And lots of pain, I'm sure. Guess you'll have to concentrate on your connubial activities, so all is not lost. Best wishes for a full and speedy recovery.

I know what you're going through. I had lower back surgery (pins and rods now) and the Navy gave me 8 weeks of con leave. 4 weeks of that I wasn't able to leave the house. All the doctors told me to do was walk, so I did laps around my upstairs for a month. The next 4 weeks were major therapies. I know what it's like to be down and out for a while. Trust me though, take your time and heal up right. Don't push anything. You don't want to screw anything up. Also, from one serviceman to another, get everything documented so when it is time for you to leave the service you can file a claim with the VA so any follow up stuff resulting from this injury doesn't cost you an arm and a leg to take care of. Good luck on the recovery.

Damn KC, sorry to hear about that. Speaking from experience (broken bone piece off top of Tibia of right knee, arthroscopic surgery on both knees), busted knee recovery SUCKS but no matter how rough it gets do not screw around with this. Your best chance of recovery is to do what the docs tell you. FWIW, my prayers with you for full recovery.

Sorry to hear about this KC. Good luck on the recovery, I hope you get to fly again in the near future. Glad it wasn't another "VFR down" story also.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone. My prognosis is not looking good at all. For those who know anatomy, the only ligament left in my knee that's fully intact is my medial collateral ligament. I partially tore my lateral collateral ligament & fully ruptured basically everything else. To finish the job, I torn my meniscus as well.

The Ortho Doc said I need to keep all weight & movement off the MCL & LCL to let them heal enought to stabilize my knee. As soon as that happens, I will have the first of what could be up to 3 surgeries. I probably won't be able to walk without crutches until the late November time frame.

Justin is not happy. Watching my neighbors roll out on the normal Saturday ride nearly brought tears to my eyes. Since I live close to the base, I get to watch & hear the KC-10's & C-17's fly all day & night as well. To add insult to injury, some cell phone yakking 18yo decided to sideswipe the F150 the Saturday before all this happened. To say I've had a stressful week would be a gigantic understatement. At least the 18yo had good insurance & they are covering the repair of my truck & my rental in full.

    Ride safe all.

Damn KC - well if things happen in 3's, you've met your quota: LCL, Menisucs, and Ford. Best wishes to a speedy recovery.

Being somewhat of a lay expert on knees myself, I feel your pain......and can commiserate with the sideswipe incident since some moron decided to target lock on me and cross four lanes of traffic to blast me up into the weeds and destroy my Toyota truck.

You are definetly not having the best run of luck these days.

    Get well soon

As NCB said use the time to grace us with some good drug induced rants, we may not always agree with what you have to say KC, but you are always entertaining.

Or you could use that extra fine highly trained military mind to come up with something similar to this, and make yourself a ton of jack.

SOrry to hear of your misfortune KC. Can you use your down time to take some courses or something to further your career? Watch that percocette. Highly addictive shit that is. Get off it soon as you can tosomething milder like Tylenol 3 or if neccessary Tylenol 4.

I feel for your inability to do anythng. Been there many times with back surgeries, broken feet, arms and elbows. ALl at differetn times
