in June made it to Oklahoma like a champ. Folks at work called me nuts but I have a 3 week school in OK to attend and didn't want to be without a vehicle. I threw new rubber on her, changed the fluids and brake pads. Couldn't really afford luggage sso I strapped a dry bag from canoe trips on the back and headed west. First leg was Pittsburgh to St. Louis. A little rain at the start but clear 90% of the way. Been a long time since I road any long distance and it took me just over 12 hours to go 657 miles. Met up with a fellow Deadhead for dinner and a few drinks then slept for 7 hours before hitting the road for Norman OK. It was 534 miles and it took me 10 hours. I really had to stop more often because I was sore. Accordng to my gps while driving I averaged 73.7 mph. The only fluke was when I woke up in St. Louis the bike wouldn't start. Battery was barely alive and a homeless street person helped me bump start it. When I tried giving him some cash he actually refused it saying that he used to ride. I told him in my younger days I used the hitchhike the country and would always accept pay for a job well done. He took the cash and we shook hands fairing each other well. The bike has started every time since but I really think a new battery is in order. On other note is she turned 70,000 miles coming through Indianapolis. I have 2 weekends off and I'm thinking of heading toward N. Mex. this weekend and I'm going to Dallas Tx. the follow weekend. Peace
