Hi there. After a recent accident on my VFR, I realised that the clothes I have is not nearly good enogh. I have come across this clothe from Tourmaster, but I don't know it at all. Tour Master :: Textile Jackets :: Transition Series 2 Jacket Is there any of you guys who have experince with it, or knows anything about the material it's made of: 600 Denier Carbolex The only thing I seem to be able to find on the net, is that it's supposed to be very strong nylon. But is it comparable to kevlar or??? Any feedback would be appreciated.
Textile is obviously not as durable as leather but it still works well in my opinion. Just make sure it has armor in all the impact areas (shoulders, elbows, knees, etc) Rollin
I know we are entering almost a religious subject, when talking about leather versus textile. I think modern textile is on level with leather, if it's the right material. The armour goes without saying and that seems to be ok. Just a bit curious if there should be somebody having personnels "asphalt experience" with this brand of clothes.
Both materials work well and the big difference seems to be that leather tends to get rashed up and stay entact during a fall while textile material gets shredded pretty easily even with slow speed crashes. I prefer textile myself since they are typically a little cooler, waterproof, and cost much less while providing adequate 1 time crash protection. Rollin
I have been a fan of the Motoport clothing for years. In my opinion it is not the best looking clothing, but very functional and in the summer the mesh is really nice. I have the kevlar air mesh jacket and air mesh pants. I recently bought a pair of the gp style pant for more comfort on the R6. You will not save any money over leather but in the summer it is worth it. Kevlar Motorcycle Apparel To answer the question, I have not had any experience with the brand in question.
I have the Transition jacket. I've had it since 2007. It's as good as it going to get for textile gear. Obviously leather IS the way to go, but I believe you were asking if the Transition jacket is a quality piece & worth the money? If that's your question, yes it is a quality piece & worth the money. I wear Joe Rocket and Speed and Shift textile jackets and pants and I haven't gone down yet (knock on wood) but they seem to me be well worth the money. Hope this helps.
Thanks for all the replies. @KC10 FE, you got it right, thanks. Seems to be pretty hard to get any real information on the net. Don't know why the producers are so scarse with it. But the little I found and your reply on top, I will take the chance and try it out. @jesusbuiltmyvfr, I do agree with you, but learned the hard way, that what I had wasn't good enough. Would prefer to make that a once in a lifetime experience. That means, that I prefeer to know my clotlhes is ok next time. On th eother hand I knowquality can be bought to expensive, so trying to hit something decent quality and at a decent price.
I know alot of websites that sell that kind of gear usually have a review section. Also there are great informative vids on youtube about all the different kinds of gear. I checked em out before I bought my leather jacket, I am pretty happy with my decision. Hope this helps.
The only experience I have with Tourmaster is the Caliber pants I just got, and I love them. Seem well built and protective as well though I haven't asphalt tested them yet. I have been down with a Scorpion Cool Rod jacket on, and it did a good job of saving me from skin grafts and broken things. I went out and bought another just like it to replace it if that means anything to ya!
Hey Kerby, I just wanted to point out that if the price in your link of $430 for a textile is correct and summer heat is an important factor, which it is for me also, you may want to take a look at perforated leather the next time your in the market for a jacket. For that kind of money a top quality, including A-Stars and Dianese, perforated leather is doable. This link is for just 1 of 50 perforated options I can think of in the $330-$500 range. I think Wayne's kevlar mesh is way cooler than perforated leather. I've tried that route and this was much better. His prices have gone up since I purchased mine, but it was still expensive. I feel I got my money's worth. To each his own.
