After a long slow rebuild, I am finally ready to fire up my 86vf500 with a 84-85 motor. Have a question
    1. Seems I read somewhere to fire up the motor withou any water coolant first, letting the new head gasket to form a better seal. I know not to run it very long like this. Is this a good idea?
    Thanks,
    Scott

Never, in all of my years, have I ever heard of such a thing.......where did you hear, or read, that? I would be intersted in hearing or reading about that idea.

Maybe someone thought heat would cook it on and make it tighter? I have never heard this either. When I did mine on the 88 Yami, I just put some purple shit(official aviation seal goo term) on it and ran it up.

would run with full fresh fluids, start with the on/off button off to build oil pressure, then go for it.

    Ok

I believe I read it in on this forum site. I will run with fresh fluids. That's why I asked, and thats what I like about this site. People want to help, you don't get that at to many local shops.

good deal. I'm glad you asked, too. I have never heard anything like that either, but I have never claimed to be much of a mechanic so I'm not saying it ain't possible just that I have never heard of it...
