    Temperature too low??? (UPDATE!!!)

I know it sounds strange when it comes to VFR's but I think mine is running too cold.

    Outside temp: 10C (50F)
    Engine temp: 66C (150F)

    Outside temp: 20C (68F)
    Engine temp: 74C (165F)

The fan does come on in traffic as the temperature "quickly" rises to 102C (215F). The temperature never comes higher than that, even in heavy traffic. I never drove it on a hot sunny day yet (max 26C-79F) but I can easily figure out the temperature going higher that that.

    Is my temp too low?

    Thank you!

Sounds a tad low to me. Mine runs at around 172F most of the time, unless in heavy traffic, or a very hot day. There is a possibility that your thermostat is stuck partially open, or fully open. My bike was running a lot cooler awhile back, and after I did a complete coolant flush, and refill, the temps were back in the normal range. I think I got lucky and possibly caused my thermostat to become unstuck.

If you have not, flushing your system (as in draining it, flushing it with distilled or di-ionized water, draining, it and refilling with fresh coolant) is always a good idea. Give her a go. Doesn't cost much, and it pretty easy/fast to do. Worst case, is this does not help you, and your t-stat is stuck. Well, that is a much more involved job, as it is located under your FI system, and takes a good 3-4 hours to do probably. If you do replace your t-stat, be sure to test the new one out in a pot of boiling water to ensure that it opens, and at the correct temp.

BTW, hello and welcome to the forum!

Thanks for the advices. Very appreciated

It's confirmed that the thermostat is faulty. The radiators are hot when the engine temp is 50C (122F).

So it must be stuck open.

    I changed the thermostat yesterday.

    Outside temp: 15C (59F)
    Engine temp: 78C (172F)

Engine temperature is steady and does not fluctuate in city/highway.

What I read on the Internet on the VFR was absolutely right. They're bitches to work on. I wish I had 2" hands with 8 elbows. Took me 7 hours (I had troubles with vacuum hoses)

I've done a couple of civic swaps (Type R, GSR, SiR) with all the wiring (OBD2-->OBD1) and I can easily say that replacing the thermostat on a VFR is BY FAR the most time consuming job I've done so far. You don't need to have special abilities or knowledge. You just need patience and A LOT of it!

Yeah, its a bitch of a job allright, and a common problem.
I had it on my 02 model.
I hope they have improved the thermostats on the later models, although my 07 runs at 76degC with air temp of 15degC, and it drops to 74 on a downhill run.
