I discovered something very interesting (to me at least) in the recent months I spent getting my VF500F back on the road. I feel obligated to try to share this with any remaining VF500F riders out there . The fairing is essential to having the bike run at the correct temperature. I've tested this several times and I've run my bike several times with and without the front fairing as comparison. Running at high speed, the bike will run MUCH hotter without a fairing. However, with the fairing in place the temp goes down significantly. Running at freeway speeds without it, the temperature will reach 3/4 or slightly beyond, with the fairing in place, it'll stay below half way. I'm not sure how many degrees that actually equals but I have tried it several times just to make sure it wasn't just a coincidence. The outside temperature of course affects how high it goes either way but I've tested in 55 degrees through 90 degrees out and it always made a significant difference with and without the fairing. Take it for what it's worth (or don't), just thought I'd share that.
