I've heard that if you put extra air in your tires, the bike will go faster. Is this true? Should the air be cold or hot?

I would not advise this since there will be less contact patch on the ground.

    Performance tip:
Run the air on the OUTSIDE of the tire. Less unsprung weight.

It depends on whether you use standard motorcycle air or high-speed rated air. Also, be very careful that you don't confuse rear tire air with front tire air, or you will create a very wobblish situation.

Wait until its really cold outside, then inflate your tires with as much air in them as possible. Wait till it gets hot outside and drive your bike as hard as you. That loud explosion is you breaking the sound barrier... It'll be super fast!!!

Propane or nitrogen, not sure but its one of them ! If it turns out to be propane
make sure not to "lite up" when checking tire pressure.

Does anyone know how to fill a tire with Slick50? Is there a special valve I need to attach to the bottle?

    Regards,

Its helium, this gas is lighter than o2 so the tyres will also be lighter, but i think you will not feel your bike faster...

Yes air in the tires will make you go faster. More air, faster you go. Just use summer air now.

Also add a bit of synthetic silicone based air wetter. Slick 50 can work but it might not be compatible with rubber.

    Answer is:

Yes. more air in the tire, means a smaller contact point of the tire to the pavement. Less contact area, means less friction. Less friction, means the bike moves quicker, and responds quicker.

Cold air is better. Cold air wont allow the rubber in the tire to stretch. flexing rubber in the tire, will give a better feel to the ride, and absorbe more "bumps", however, it does increase the surface area, and we already said that more surface area, increases friction.

Dont believe me? deflate your tire, front or back to about 11 psi. you tell me how it handles.

You have to admit, this seems like a troll question.

The poster gave us little information. What does he mean by "faster" 170 instead of 150?. What is meant by "extra air" 80 psi each tire?.

Let me bust out my anti-troll tool! :tclaw:

I found this article interesting about friction, contact patch, etc: Friction (and contact patch size)

Maybe the thinking is more air pressure makes the circumference increase a bit so the top gear limited speed might be higher?

I have heard that in cages, thinner tires and over inflation increases MPG.

I'd use Hydrogen as it's less dense than Helium. They used to use it in Blimps, but I think they ran out of it one time and decided not to use it. Hmm.....I wonder why????

Just don't hit any sharp bumps with the hydrogen in there.
