tail/dash light issue

    hi all, i have an 84 vf500f2. having a little trouble and hope someone can help.
    the tail light and dash lights have stopped working, brake/headlight/parking all work. i tried changing the ignition swith incase that wasnt making contact, to no joy. i have a second vf that i use for spares, so any help would be grasped with both hands.

    I would check the usual culprits, fuse, short, bad ground, get a continuity tester and run it down the harness to see if you have a short somewhere, also check for cuts/abrasion in the harness. Clean and grease the connections.

    starter button, although I would expect the headlights to be out too.

    When hitting the starter button, it opens the circuit to the lighting so you have ample current for the starter. The switch is a weak POS which often melts and makes poor contact. Maybe it's making poor contact, enough for the headlights to steal all the juice and you're left with no tail or dash lights. Try wiggling the starter button around and see if your tail comes on.
