Hello everyone I don't actually own a VFR at this time. I currently run a CBR 954 and 900 RR previous to that. I love those bikes. I plan to keep the CBR and possibly upgrade to a CBR 1000 soon. My question is this. I am either going to buy a VFR 800 or a ST 1300 so my wife, who loves to ride with me, can do so in relative comfort. I have never ridden a VFR but did rent an ST in California for a 24 hour period in which I put on about 475 miles. I loved the ST in terms of comfort but was very disappointed in power output and handling. The front was very vague and the bike was a bit heavy and not as flickable as I would prefer. I know the VFR will handle better but am concerned about power output as the ST has the same basic engine architecture with 500 more CC's. If I get the VFR I plan to get Honda hard bags and trunk as well as a better seat, possibly a Corbin. Sorry about the long winded detail but any input would be much appreciated. Thanks! BTW I just realized I probably posted this in the wrong place as this is about introducing myself and probably not for long winded questions so sorry if i am mucking it up for any of you more specific type personalities.
I'd give the Yamaha FJR a try, If that does better than the ST for you. I'd probably go with the FJR.... Other wise the flick goes to VFR.... But it sounds like you're looking for the flick your 900's offer with the pickup that a heavier bike isn't going to have.... I thing the VFR would give you both, but not with a passenger..... There for, I'd say the FJR....... Looks like you're in the middle.... Good luck.....
Thank you for that, I will certainly do some more research. I assume the I4 in the FJR has a bit more pep and I did love how smooth the v4 was. You are correct, I am in the Middle, I have always had a fantasy of owning a VFR but am pretty accustomed to the liter bikes so I guess a 1000 cc VFR should be a reality. I love all bikes so no choice is a bad one, I just want to make the best possible choice. Thanks again
I think you'll be more than happy with the handling but a bit dissapointed with the power. Most people I know are pretty satisfied with the power of the VFR when riding two up but they do tend to ride much less agressive when carrying a pillion. Regards, Rollin
I do ride less aggressive with a passenger as well but am used to carting her on a 954 so riding the ST was great in a lot of ways but the twisties were not quite good enough for me on that heavy and somewhat vague bike. I appreciate the good and quick responses. Thank YOU
I appreciate the keystrokes regardless and it looks like i may wait forever for the mythical 1000, 1200 or whatever VFR. FJR may be it but I can sacrifice some power for the handling (get a VFR), I think??
