    Hi guys,

I tried to find some information about sub air cleaner and its role in air filtering on my 1991 VFR750, but nada, nothing, nichts, etc...
BTW, it’s the little black box attached to the main air filter. It contains a small foam pad which disintegrates over time.

    Thanx

I had just looked at a fiche of your air cleaner. It looks like it works as a breather filter, because theres a breather tube going into it. The breather is used to release gases from the crankshaft, and since the fumes are oily, the filter would catch the oil before the rest of the fumes are sent back into the intake for combustion. Its basically an emissions and pollution controll system, so as to not let dirty oily fumes out into the atmosphere. Without the sub air filter, your regular filter and intake air box would become much grimier and dirtier quicker.

Thanks a lot for your answer U53FUL 1Di0t, but I'm afraid there's more than that...
I thought so too, but that tube connects sub air cleaner housing and clean part of air cleaner (below the paper filter), and there are no more tubes but that one.
It looks like to me that SAC serves it's purpose when main air filter cannot let enough air on high revs, and the engine takes that extra bit of much needed air trough SAC. When I opened up my SAC, the foam, apart from being disintegrated, was dry as if no one ever oiled it... In that case, all that extra air my poor engine took over SAC was extremely dirty, :frown: :frown: :frown: but since I haven't found anything about in on the internet, I hope it's not a very important issue...

I can post few pictures to make the whole thing more visual...
And sorry about my English everybody...
