So I'm taking a nice little jaunt over into WY. Get to Devil's tower take a little rest a few pics and get frisky on the way back thru the twisites.

There are so damn many bugs on my helmet shield I pulled over to gas station to wipe them off. I get to the pump and the other guy is using the wiper so i wait. Then I decide to just get off and walk around a little. I'm putting the bike on the sidestand and I just get past the point of no return before I realize I didn't put the sidestand down!

I've earplugs in and helmet on so its all in slow mo with very little sound. I'm doing my best to pull it up when my hamstring lets go, the bike drops and I go ass over tea kettle. I stand up and I know I'm in trouble because my leg is killing me. I bend over to try to pick up the bike but I'm standing at a funny angle when I do and my calf then cramps up.

I straighten up in some pain and see a Harley guy (also has his 5 yo on the back of his bike-other post on vfr world) coming over and behind me an old guy telling me how heavy bikes are. They both help me lift it up and everything looks alright. Left side cowl took a beating, clutch lever is bent in farther, left mirror needs to be re-adjusted but not bad. Everybody is looking at me like 'WTF?' dude. I push the bike out of the way but it won't start. At least not right away, it must have flooded a little or something. Anyway I look it over and it looks rideable so I fire it up and drive it home.

Stupid stuff like this happens to me ALL the time so I'm not too bothered by it all but I thought I'd share the experience.

Man that sucks and I know how you feel. I was messing with my helmet once and a piece of the shield retainer came off. I did a quick u-ey and pulled over, and was in a big hurry to get over and pick up the piece before someone ran over it. I didn't have the kickstand down far enough and down it went. I threw myself under it and saved it from major damage but the fairing was scratched a bit. Just makes a person feel real silly.

That really sucks about your leg, these mothers can be a bugger to get back up.

I have made it a habit to actually bump the kickstand with my foot when I think it's in position just to make sure before I start leaning it over.

i know your pain. yesterday i dropped my bike twice. the first time i got on to start it and the batt was dead. so i put the kickstand down and leaned over got off. made it about two steps away and hear crunch it rolled forward off the stand so i walked over and picked it up ( bent the clutch lever and pushed my turn signal in and cracked the fairing. about 3 hrs later i charged the battery and got on it to start it. started right up and i tried backpedaling out of my drive which slopes downward a bit so i got off to pull it out and i lost my balance and down it went on brake side:mad:. so i broke my brake lever also. but in all that mess i replace my rear tire. woohoo

I dropped mine after filling up with gas as I was still on the bike. I finished and heard the beep for my receipt. As I turned a bit backwards to grap it the bike started to lean to the right and when I turned back around to save it, it was too late. Talk about feeling stupid! A man about 350 lbs riding some dual sport that looked like a 50 with him on it,
came over and help me pull her up right. SH** happens.

Dropped mine before the first ride on it.
Pulled it out of the garage and did not have reg. or ins card on me shut it off and went in to get it.
Came out and the battery was dead in the process of getting it back in the garage to charge it tripped over the side stand and bang clutch leave and a some paint gone.
About a case that night and got over it.

Speaking from the vast experience that I possess, you will only do this once. There may be other reasons you drop the babe in the future, but only once for not putting out the side kick. Not that I have ever done this.

i almost dropped in the same circimstance in walmart parking lot . i got low enough for the left passenger peg to hit the asphalt. luckly i am very big and was able to wrestle it up b4 any farings hit the ground. about 15 people saw this go down and they were all cracking up. needless to say, i decided i would to the shoping later. thank god for tinted visors, my identity was conceiled.

Been there done that, got that patch!, While on Guam, had a CB350, stoped at a gas station, took the helmet off, took a deep breath, swung my right leg over the bars, stood up and watched the bike fall to the right. The guy in front of me looked at me funny, I just said " I park it like that all the time". They flood on their side too.

We've all dropped 'em. But I had a new one.

    Surprised it never happened before
Rolling off of center stand. Onto right foot. Foot is sloped from high ankle to low toes, so it starts falling over away from me. But I'm trapped, I can't do anything! Held it up a little. Got tiny scratch on fairing, heard a pop or crack but haven't found it, yet.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad
    Hard start 5 minutes later.
Thanks for sharing. Gives everybody a headsup.

I got one for you. Rolling into parking lot at church, they had a big extension cord running diagonal across parking lot. Saw it, but when I took my eyes off it to turn into a space was closer than I thought and my front rolled over it and down I went. Scraped lh fairing, crack main cowl and broke the middle fairing stay. Haven't been back to church since. Felt like an idiot, seeing it and still letting it take me down.

Dropped mine one and a half times, so far. The first full drop is too embarassing to mention, the half drop was after a long ride pulled into a gas station. Put the side stand down, but I pushed forward as I lifted my tired and heavy leather-clad leg over the back. She rolled off the stand. Tried the save and got my knee between the tank and the gas pump. The tank now has a nice round indentation where my left knee goes. Six sport-touring guys were just pulling in for gas and helped me get the bike back up.

By the way, I retouched the lower faring rash after the first drop and the colour's good but the retouched areas are raised. Can these be buffed down and, if so, can anyone tell me with what grit/polish/buffing cloth type?

    Thanks

You know we've all been there in one form or another my friend. I swear I'm gonna just drop my bike while at the dealer upon purchase just to get it out of the way next time.

Augghhh, hate when that happens. Glad it was not too bad. Sure I will cry alittle when I put a scratch on my baby. It is just a matter of time (hopefully way into the future).

My best drop was a Suzuki GS650E, I was pulling up to a hill and stopped just at the right time. Rear tire was on the flat and the front was going up the hill. My short legs would not reach the ground and by the time one did it was way too late.

Lesson learned .... always stop on constant grade.
