As I sit here, surfing VFRW and having an ear sort of listening to the TV, they are discussing on TV, "Should actors do their own stunts?" My first thought was Who the fuck cares. But my mind immediately went to Steve McQueen and more specifically " The Great Escape" On of the many great movies he was in during his memorable career. By buddy Steve was the man. Did his own stunts. Including that jump over the fence on a bike. And the infamous police chase where he drove that Shelby Cobra like a cheap hoar. I understand that many do not possess the talent to do what is often done by stuntmen, but generally speaking. For the sake of a little boo boo, should our highly paid actors do their own stunts?
I really don't care either, and it doesn't impress me if they do, but pretty sure that if it really is dangerous the studio insurance wouldn't go for it. Steve was the man!!! In the movie "On any Sunday" he showed he could really ride a bike, and the rebel thing was good too. I would like to have been his stand in with Natalie Wood!. DAMN!
Yeah. STeve's the man. Bet he doesn't sleep in satin sheets. I wonder if he jumped off that cliff with the sack of cocco nuts in Papion?
A bit of McQueen Bullit trivia, two Mustangs were used for the chase scenes, the car used for the jumping scenes was so boogered up it was junked. The other was sold to a studio worker, then a cop, then to the guy that still owns it. He wont sell the car, even to McQueen when he tried to buy it. He doesnt show the car and keeps it in his garage in Tennessee.
Nice tid bit there Bear. It would be nice to latch onto that stored car. I hope that turd at least drives it from time to time. Yup, those jumps would have buggered up the car but good. I understand that due to the Dukes of Hazard, that particular vintage of Charger is relatively hard to come buy.. Who does the stunts with Daisy Duke?
I totally agree with the comments about Steve McQueen but he did not jump the motorcycle over the fence in The Great Escape. He did every other stunt on the bike in the movie but his stunt double did the jump (Bud Ekins). Steve McQueen in "The Great Escape". As for actors doing their own stunts I say SURE! They get paid a boat load of money to entertain us. It distracts you from the movie if you see an obvious stunt person taking the place of the star. I for one would love to see Tom Cruise low side a bike in the out-takes of Mission Impossible 2!!
not as hard to come by because of the show... the did booger iup a ton of them but if you watch alot of the jumping scenes are reused the trashed alot of the police cars... another show that boogered up a ton of cars ids In the Heat of the Night.... not as many as DoH but they did wreck quite a few... and here is another worthless tidbit of trivia...The Dukes of Hazard and In the Heat of the Night were both filmed on the same location in Georgia..
Funny, I was thinking of him precisely as I was typing the original post. I mean if he can jump on that couch on Oprha the way he did, he should be s shoe in to do his own stunts. I think that guy uses a tampon to stop the bleeding on his hangnails.
Had no idea they buggered up a lot o cars on Heat of the Night. How come we don't see Boss Hog giving Carol COnner shit all the time?
A ton of actors, including Tom Cruise, DO perform a lot of their own stunts. On that same show you mentioned, it showed Cruise bouncing off a car onto a mat on the ground. The actors in Inception did alot of those stunts there too. Angelina Jolie (whimper) does a lot of her own stunts thus adding to her incredible hotness. You have to remember, there aren't many realistic movies these days. Some stunts are so over the top, of course they're not going to do the stupid stuff. If you are playing a character that is supposed to launch a KTM off a highway overpass, jump off the bike mid-air, and land on the hood of a moving vehicle, would YOU do it? Or pussy out and call in the professional stunt man? Just saying... (BTW that is a scene in Knight & Day, with Cruise and Diaz that I watched last wknd).
I can think of several actors/actresses/entertainers that would benefit from being in a dangerous situation. Perhaps that would get them to shut up and stop telling the rest of us how we should view life. End of rant.
