So I rode down from Seattle today to see my kids, (trucker) I ran down and my 2003 Non-ABS (100% stock) viffer ran like a dream... I pulled up to the house and shut the bike down walked inside the house to open the garage (litterlaly less than 5 min ) and when i tried starting the bike, there was nothing.. lights came on, fuel pump ran for a sec and before I could hit the starter button everything (and I mean everything) blinked out... so im figuring bad battery or bad fuse... so I charge the battery and check ALL the fuses and everything is fine... I have a wierd buzzing noise from behind the gauges all the time then the key is on, the starter relay buzzes and clicks when I hit the starter, power to the rear (lic plate light, and rear running light work fine, I have no headlights at all, the gauges flickker and display wired (bike key on not moving and the speed moves to sporattic speeds 2-19-5-33-5-and finally to 0 MPH, takes a few minutes for the gauges to show anything.

Put battery on charger (out of the bike) and charged it to 100% and still no luck
Disconnected the Main power line to the starter... no change
Looks like I have no power to the headlights at all
Tried hooking to a deep cycle truck battery (my ex wife has a power stroke diesel -- solve the prob if a bad battery) ... no change

    bike has 11500 miles
recall done.... Unsure just got the bike last week

acting like there is a HUGE drain on the battery... just spent 3 hours pulling off the plastics to find the two outer relays
behind the gauges buzzing when the key is on ... continuously buzzing

starter relay only buzzes when you hit the starter button

If it will help I can shoot a video and youtube it and add the link here,

any help you guys could send my way would be appriciated.... or atleast somewhere to start... I need to be back in Seattle on monday morning...

    Gunny

First thought that comes to mind is...have you had the wiring harness recall performed by Honda? I think they put a punch out on the VIN sticker when they do it. I know that can cause weird issues on early year 6th gens.

If you can verify "for sure" it has been done, then you can rule that out. Based on your post, it sounds as though you are unsure. Again, check the VIN sticker for a punch out, and/or call Honda and ask them to check.

I called honda to ask if the recall was done on my new to me vfr. They were able to confirm that it was.

From here all I got is to inspect the main ground connection, the buzz of relay's makes me think it is a possible ground issue.

If the recall has been done for sure then you need to check for Stator and RR. Your symtom point to the harness problem, I would check all the connector espcially at the head light. Un plug the head light and the high beam connector and try to start the bike. If the bike start then your hardness is faulty. Good luck and keep us posted.
