    Hi,

I've got a 2000 VFR ... At a constant throttle position in any gear the bike "pulses" ever so slightly as if the fueling is not steady and then on deceleration there's a rattling sound that becomes less noisy as the revs decline. I think the two things are related because they started at about the same time a few weeks back. The bike's got just over 30,000 kms (18,500 miles) on it.

Any ideas? Any help is much appreciated.

Chains develop tight and loose spots as they wear and can surge, jerk or pulse the bike.

Stock original chains on a VFR last about 20k miles, so you may be on schedule for replacement.

Yep, I would look at the chain too. All chains stretch unevenly. If you put her up on the center stand and rotate the back wheel, watch the chain and you'll see it raise and lower as you get to the stretched and normal spots.

Another thing to do is try it at different speeds and see if the pushing slows with speed, but te same rims. Try it in different gears.

I woudnt suspect the fuel filter. Typically if it's plugged you will have issues at high power settings.

Check to see if your chain needs adjustment: it will rattle if it's too loose. If its too tight, you will get pulsing big time.

    Cheers

I forgot to add, don't replace the chain just because it's unevenly stretched. Follow the guidance in your manual that tells you when it's time for a new chain.

The chain on this bike is well able to handle the horsepower.

    Cheers mate
