Waiting on some cheap parts to extend the air line to a remote location. Carved out the cavity in the foam for a few good reasons. To keep the pad in place, reduce the height off the seat the pad would normally cause you to sit, and the pad needs slack in the fabric to work. I don't expect it to look as sleek when I staple the cover back down. The bladder chamber pattern will be visible. BUT.... I don't need to worry about the airhawk getting stolen or sliding around while riding.

Maybe Darth Vader after a close encounter with one of those bigass haulers that are used in your part of the world?

Most custom seat builder are using gel pads, and seem to trend toward using all new foam or layers of foam with different cell structures.

Custom seats can be pricy but they are so much better than the cookie cutter types IMO.

The hurdle in most places is convincing an automotive upholstery shop that there are serious pesos to be made doing bike seats.

We now shift gears and do yet another shameless plug for Rich O'Connor of Rich's Seats in Kingston WA.

The airhawk air line can be extended quite easily. The valve is a 1/4" barb fitting that can be removed. Just grab1/4 - 1/4 barb adapter at your local hardware store

Also, to work with a plastic seat pan. You'll need a pneumatic staple gun. HF sells a 20 gauge crown one for 20 bucks. Accepts arrow T-50s and will do the job

Anout how much height would this cushion add to the seat if you weren't going to carve out a space for it?

The height would be partially determined by inflation. I'm sure the dimensions and warrantee have some limits say for harleydoods that are aboot 400 lbs on the hoof. ;)

Check oot some of the Utube vids for an overview.

Get out of my thread, sow. This is for people who actually ride and work on their own bikes.

Anyway, the airhawk should raise you off the seat around 1/2" if that

I already shaved down my seat and I'm not sure I would have enough room to carve out anymore for this to become an insert. But I may tear it apart and take a look.

I touch better on the bike after shaving it down, but I could stand to have more ground contact as well as better cushion. Thanks for sharing! :) This gives me some ideas.

Anne Marie, have you tried the Daytona ladystar boots? Should give you around another inch.

No, I sure haven't. Thank you for the suggestion! :) I have had Sidi boots for the longest time, but they do not add much height at all. I could really use an extra inch.... :) 5'3" with 28" inseam.

That is a cheapo, 5 dollar blood pressure cuff bulb from amazon. (there's a technical term for it that I don't care to remember) That way you can sit on the seat and easily adjust.

If you can find someone with them in stock your side of the pond - there are several brands offering taller versions of proper motorcycle boots which have got decent reviews both in terms of aesthetics, rider safety and day to day use by smaller/female riders..

Overall I'm happy with how this turned out. Can even inflate while sitting on it. One downside to the airhawk is on some seats it can push you forward into the tank.. no es bueno para caballeros. Don't seem to have that issue with this install. A long ride will prove it's effectiveness.

Looks like that might be a little hard to get to even on the slab..;) I bet a sharp engineer could figure oot how to mount a 12volt airhorn pump to do the job.

BTW, before those Airhawks were invented, harleydoods were using whoopee cushion for long distance rides.

This is a great idea - very inventive. I'm looking forward to the ride report.
Is this the Airhawk R small?
