ok so I located my problem which is my starter relay that connects to the starter and the battery. I fried the old one and bought a new one today... I tried hooking it up but every time I hooke it up it blows a fuse. so I went back to the source of the problem which are the turn signals. I disconnected them completely. Now when i hook up the relay I dont blow any fuses but there is still absolutely no sign of life in the bike. Nothing turns on (lights, gauges, etc...) and the bike WILL NOT START.

any ideas on what I should be looking for. I searched my Clymer's manual and it doesn't seem to give any help... So who has an idea?

Ok, first what caused the old relay to fry?

Second, what fuse blows when you hook up the relay. Is it when you hook up the relay, or only after you turn the ignition to "ON"?

As far as removing the turn signal connections, sounds like something else got disconnected.

What I would do. Ensure your new relay is a 30 amp relay - not a 20 amp.

If you can hook up the relay without blowing a fuse, hook it up.

Now remove every fuse on the fuseblock, but the main fuse. Turn the ignition to "ON".

Now test the battery's positive and ground connections - and then the relay's positive and ground connections.

One at a time, put a fuse back in the fuseblock. If it blows, you've narrowed down the problem to that particular circuit.

You may have more than one problem.

P.S. Be sure to have a wiring diagram handy.

If I had a schematic, I could offer some assistance. This is not one of those "general" types of problems... masonv45 has good suggestions.

After looking up your earlier post, there may be the possibility of a burned out/shorted wire. The smoke was probably the wire insulation, unless there was a component that fried.

Any ideas on where I might get a schematic?

well 1st of all the relay fried when i connected my turn signals. The fuse in the new starter relay kept frying whenever i plugged it in. finally i found out i had a bad ground which was blowing my relay fuse. so after i got that fixed i could hook up the relay and the bike started again however i kept blowing the 10amp fuse that controls my lights on the bike when i turned the ignition on. so i then went to the source of the problem which originally was my signals. i found out after looking at my diagram my posotive and negative connectors were hooked up backwards causing the 10amp fuse in the fuse box to blow. finally after fixing the bad ground and the signals all is back to normal and i am trying to put my bike back together. Thanx a lot for the advice because it helped me find my problem.
