I bought a set of Heli-Bars and got to the point where i removed the LH handle bar and related stuff. The grip is a heated grip. The end weight came off fine, but the internal part doesn't move even without the retaining clip. Is there a trick to removing it, or do you think that something is seized? How do you get a heated grip off the bar? (Normally i would use compressed air or an injection of simple green and twist it off) With the end weight back on and loosely fitted, the internal part spins, but just stays in the same place.

Most heated grips use some sort of glue to keep them in place. This is no issue if you don't want to remove them. I assume you want to keep the heated grip element so you may need to take a gentle approach or you risk breaking the heating wires embedded into the grip. I suspect breaking the glue bond with an airline might work but would tend to go for a more cautious approach - even that won't guarantee the heated grips will survive in tact but gives a reasonable chance.

One - remove bar end weight.
Two - with the engine running put the heated grips on to get them (and the glue underneath good an hot) .
Three - turn off engine and using a long very thin flat blade screw driver cautiously work the screwdriver down into the gap between grip and bar using plenty of spray on lubricant - WD40 if you guys have it over there - otherwise try washing up liquid. Once you manage to get the screwdriver down the whole length of the grip apply more lubricant and slowly work the screwdriver progressively further around the bar until you break the glue bond all the way around the bar. Apply plenty more lubricant and then pressing on the inboard edge of the grip only you should find the grip will slide right off.

Four - now you need to locate the two tiny catches which hold the bar damper inside the bar - spray them with WD40.
Five - refit the bar end weight - finger tight is just fine as you'll be taking it off again soon.
You will need the help of an assistant for a couple of minutes.
Six - using a suitable adjustable wrench adjust it so its just slightly larger than the bar width so it will slide easily along it but won't pass over the bar end weight.
Seven - Find a suitable hammer and then place the wrench against the bar end weight
Eight - Find two small screwdrivers - small enough to pass through the holes in the bar and press down/release the catches holding the damper in place
Nine - whilst you assistant presses both catches inwards to release the damper - using the hamper tap progressively (not aggressively!) against the wrench until the damper comes free.
Ten - perhaps test the heated grips are still working OK before fitting them to the helibars - if the old glue has dried out a smear of neoprene glue is all you need.

Hints - make sure you fit the bars the right way around - yes someone managed to stuff that one up! Also note the switchgear has small locating pegs which must locate in the predrilled hole in the helibars. So if the switches don't sit right - then take them off again - locate the hole in the helibars then make sure you align the peg with the pre-drilled hole.

    Hope that helps

Thanks SkiMad, i can see that i missed the part about removing the grips first. The 2 holes i see near the grip are for the switch assy like you said. I'll look around for a super narrow screwdriver, hope i don't damage the heater.
