I was wondering if anybody know were there is a good internet link showing me how to check the stator? I think my problem might be just that.Thank you
Can you give us a description of the problem? The service manual shows how to check for resistance, but you can also check it by disconnecting it at the the prong connection, starting the bike, and reving the engine to about 5 grand. If I remember correctly, the voltage should continue to rise, I think the max is like 75 (i forget what the guy at the dealer said) and if it drops off any then it is probably bad. However, a description of your problem might help us determine if that is indeed the case. Don't forget to include the year model of your bike. :smile:
I think I've the same problem. R/R is fine, but the voltage definitely doesn't rise with rpm (actually goes down from 13.5 at idle to 13.0 or lower at 5K). And amusingly, it's the same bike, and I just picked mine up in December as a first bike as well (lot a bike to be starting on). I'd posted to the 1st/2nd gen subforum, but it doesn't seem to get as much traffic as out here.
